2. Wow! I vaguely remember that year

in NY (LI). Wasn't there a big fleet week type of extravaganza? I remember my family hosting some Germans on sailing ships.

this was later in the summer, at the convention that nominated James Earl Carter.

8. That's a good one to have. Somewhere I have my grandfather's

"Democrat for Nixon" button from 68.

I dug it out of the trash where he had tossed it sometime in 70, just before I was about to get drafted.

He thought Nixon would end the war before I had to go.

bumper sticker from the 1972 election. (But I have no idea where it is, somewhere at my mother's house.)

As an adolescent, I thought "What the...???"

Now it seems perfctly reasonable.
