Poll question: Waterbed....Yes or No?

Last night, my water bed sprung a leak and I was up all night draining it so it wouldn't leak all over the carpet.

Then at about 5:00 am I fell asleep on my couch.

And then I had to go to work with a stiff back, and a lousy nights sleep.

Today I spent $299.35 for a new mattress and liner.

I've been sleeping on a water bed for about 12 years now.

Every night I slide into a warm comforting bed, that's like climbing back into the womb.

I love my water bed.

King size.

Nice clean 800 count sheets and a down comforter.

So, say it's so, or say it ain't.

A waterbed...Yes or no?

1. Don't waterbeds give you back problems?

I wouldn't get any old bed. If you have the money, get one of those foam-like beds that conform to your body. You warm up really quick with good blankets and can even find decent heated blankets if you can't get warm.

11. I used to sleep on a waterbed

I thought it was too hot in the summer and if I turned it down, it made my bones hurt. I'd rather have anything other than a waterbed. I'd rather sleep on the couch.

of back problems. I think it has something to do with the heat swelling your discs..

back problem started and I got a pillow soft mattress and the back is feeling much better.

I'm serious here.

I'm almost 50 and I can go 8-10 hours without peeing.

I never get up in the middle of the night to hit the John which is my name.

Once I'm in my bed, I'm in there for 8-10 hours no problem.

No bladder problems here.

Maybe I am just different!

5. I voted for the waterbed (for the warmth)

But, while pregnant, 10 years ago, I opted for the floor for almost a week until hysterical hubby went out and got us a $1000 plus bed I could sleep in. He could have spent less.... waterbeds and pregnant spines do not mix.


Why am I going on about this..... Are you planning on having a pregnant female in your bed in it's foreseeable future....?

6. I used to love my waterbed, but in the last 15 years my back

won't take it. I need a firm mattress, very firm, and if it's not firm enough I sleep on the floor.

But it's not as much fun.

10. Actually, I got my waterbed...

....after my second major back surgery and haven't had a problem since. I don't think I want to ever have to go back to a regular mattress/box spring. Too snuggly warm and comfy when it's cold out.

givemebackmycountry - I haven't had any leaks in my water mattress in a very long time, but I did find that I didn't really have to drain it much in order to make a repair. Just enough so that there wasn't pressure in the mattress pressing the water against the inside. Then I could dry the area off and gently but gently apply a little sealant over it. Once the sealant was dry, I could handle it enough to apply a patch. 'Course, a lot depends on where the leak is situated and how big it is.

Which gets me to thinking..........My mattress is going on 15 years-old. Time to start looking for a new one. Soon.

13. If you have back problems, get baffles in the water bed.

I'm not sure I'm spelling it right, but you can get something called 'baffles' in your mattress. They provide back support and you can get it light or you can get really great back support. Of course, it makes the bed a bit more firm, but it's still warm and wishy like a waterbed. :)

14. Firm mattress,

pillow top, flannel sheets, down comforter. Best combo all the way around. In the warm months, switch to regular sheets and a light quilt.

Worst mattress I ever slept on was one of those memory foam mattresses--both my husband and I had a ferocious backache from that one and it was at a bed and breakfast that bragged about its fancy Swedish mattresses.

20. I loved my waterbed, but it was more trouble than it was worth.

Especially when I had to move.

I had the waterbed from age 18 to 21, and it was really nice when I was pregnant. So comfortable and warm! I did have to give it up when my ex and I split. I moved into a one-bedroom apartment with my daughter, and there wasn't room for a queen-sized waterbed AND a crib.

At any rate, I haven't had the desire to buy another one in the last 17 years. I have a deluxe king size bed with a pillowtop mattress that I like very much. :)

21. waterbeds make me seasick, but i know people who love them

and they would never change to a regular bed.
