My advise to all of you here at DU: DON'T LIVE 5 MINUTES FROM WORK!!!

I work a 24x7 operation although I never work nights or weekends. Thanks to this blizzard, I maybe have to go in and cover since I'm 5 minutes from work.

Are you possibly drifted in? Walking even 5 minutes can be dangerous when the temps are very low and there are white-out conditions.

And there have been many occasions where I've been on time in fugly weather while some people who are 10 minutes away are half an hour late.

I'm sure we'll be pretty much all plowed by tomorrow a.m. I'm sure a lot of the streets are already done. I just had no reason to even try to leave the house.

We lived in New York (in Bayside, Queens) for a few years in the late 70s and when we first moved there, we had two huge blizzards less than two weeks apart in January of 1978. Luckily, the first one all melted when it went up to 50 and poured all night about three days before the second storm hit. It was a mess. When they plowed our street they totally covered up my car and it took forever to dig it out.

15. i used to live on the other side of the whitestone bridge in the late

seventies, i grew up in the east bronx. so we were near queens. i had family in astoria and a lot of queens kids used to go to this catholic high school by the bridge. we'd go shopping in flushing and go to the rko keith's. a gorgeous theater.

I used to live one block over from work and I'd walk in. Snow is one thing, but regardless of the reason they hang you up, they always justify it with the 'you don't have a commute or anything' argument.

I would like to thank Noah at my mom's job. He only lives 5 minutes from their job and agreed to go in for my mom today. Because of his generosity, my mom wont have to attempt to drive her 10 year old car with bad wheels over 20 miles through this crap. And I don't have to sit at home and have to worry about her. Thanks Noah!!! You are appreciated!O8) Also thanks to whoever shoveled our walkway and driveway. The bad weather sure brings out the best in people.
