I have a problem with my dog
We have a six month old baby girl and our dog seems to think that her soiled diapers are just a delightful little snack. We cured him of getting his hor's dourves from the cats liiter box years ago but he seems to be addicted to dirty diapers and nothing seems to persuade him from opening the diaper pail if we forget to close the door at night or empty the thing every time we leave the house. Can this behaviour be corrected?

3. Oh nooooooooo, not the curse of the dapper diaper doggie!
I have heard of this --

All I can say is find a way to suspend the diaper pail above the floor or something. Maybe put the pail on an end table?

Or put a heavy duty deoderizing stick in the pail -- but you don't want any fumes to get to baby.

7. Get good advice from
Trisha O'Connell. She's an animal behavioralist at the University of Wisconsin - Madison who has a show on Wisconsin Public Radio.

If you go to this site: you can probably email your problem to her. btw: Her show is called Calling All Pets

She raises Border Collies and if I remember correctly there is a pic of her and her dogs on the show's site.

12. how about a trash can with a foot-pedal lid?
This ain't rocket science. I have a dog who feels that trash is her rightful snack. Had to get a step-on trash can. She's cured.

8. chocolate is bad for dogs
according to the table scraps thread.

I say, let the dog have at it. Saves on the disposal of these little bombs.

We have had a similar problem and they (vets) say it is just a phase and she will outgrow it.

Good luck.

11. Try getting dog food with more protein in it.
I heard somewhere that when a dog eats feces that it is because they are not getting enough protein in its diet.

I had a dog that did this once and changed brands of food and it worked.

13. Sometimes you train the dog...
...and sometimes the dog has to train you, I'm afraid.

Make the diaper pail more secure. Eventually he'll lose interest.

14. It's called Pica
When dogs eat bizarre things like Feces or dirt. Our dog has the same problem. It can be cause by any number of things. Sometimes it's the sign of an underlying disease. But usually it is either a deficiency in the dogs diet, or he has behavioral problems. Best to take him to the vet to rule out any kind of disease. They can give you advice on how to stop the behavior.
