to live in a two story house until I heard my friends complain about their electric bills in the summer. I no longer want a two story house, happy the way things are.

and it's nice here in KY, most of the houses have two furnaces and two central air units. One for up and one for down. We can keep the upstairs set really low in winter cause we like to sleep cold which has the extra benefit of getting my girls up quicker on school mornings to come down where it's warm. :) AND when company comes, upstairs is off limits unless I have 48 hours prior notice.

16. We have death stairs

to our second floor. That's what they call them in these old houses. 14 narrow treads with no landing in between. Our partial basement has a nice normal set of steps with a landing but they and the basement were added on to the house in the 20's.

Believe me, it's not fun falling down those death stairs..

15 steps with no landing and they're hardwood for extra bone-breaking power. Fortunately (knock on wood), no accidents on them since we moved in 14 years ago.

that we replaced the original with several years ago. We were able to add 1" to the tread so we humans haven't fallen since. Poor Grandkitty and Grandpuppy have occasionally fallen down part way.

I was the "lucky" one to bounce down the original ones.

27. We had two stories, and a basement, and a walk up attic....

So, in reality, we had 4 stories worth of stairs. Then we moved to a one story ranch with no basement and a small pull down attic. We had to get rid of TONS of shit to downsize from the previous house to this one. We feel cleansed, and FREE. Everything is so convenient! We'll never go back!

Basement to first floor. First floor to 2nd. (Cape Cod)

Then we have a deck even with the first floor, but the corner lot falls off front to back, so the garage is in the basement. So, to get from the deck to the backyard, there's a full set of steps there too.

Eventually, my MS will make us move, as stairs will begin to get more and more difficult. But, for now, i can make it.
