How should I clean the screen on my laptop?

it's a Compaq Armada m700. I don't have any manual or anything and am not sure if Windex will be safe on it. Lots of paw prints up there ???

1. SOS pads and bleach.

If you don't have bleach, then a solvent like kerosene.

Plus, in the laundry, it's easier to starch the monitor. I don't know about you, but I like my monitor nice and crispy.

And, the spring clean fresh smell can't be beat - dishwashers never give the best smell to things. Stuff always comes out just smelling like a dishwasher. Must be the soap? I don't know.

2. I went to Best Buy

and got something called "Dust Off/Monitor Wipes"--they're a "wet" product in a pop-up container that remind me of baby wipes to be real honest but they won't damage your screen and they do a great job of cleaning both my flat-screen monitor on my "big" PC and my laptop screen. Dust Off is the brand name by the way. I had some of the non-"wet" kind but they just get off the dust and don't do a darn thing for getting off fingerprints. These work just great.

3. Do not use Windex

The ammonia might damage the screen.

Use a soft, wet, soapy cloth and a light motion cleaning it.

Make sure no water drips off of the screen.

Promptly dry.

5. if you use any liquid

make sure your battery is removed and let it dry for a while to make sure any dripped liquid does not short circuit the board..

10. Two steps which should be taken

1) Angle the screen as far away from the rest of the laptop as possible.

2) Place dry rags under the screen and around the base of the screen before using a wet cloth to clean it.


Unless you have a touch screen display, dust is the only thing you really have to worry about.

I never could understand why people touch their screens.

6. i was wondering the same thing so did a google search. some

folks recommend those products from computer stores, some recommend alcohol and q-tips (there are store brands with NO alcohol in them, tho). I have been too scared to attempt it tho.

And the general consensus seems to be a VERY soft cloth and 50% isopropyl alcohol (dilute your run of the mill rubbing alcohol 1:1 and there you have it). I'll try that later and let you know what happens. Thanks for the replies.

but if you still need to use it... yeah, go with the dilluted isopropyl alcohol... :)
