I finally just got the old version out of my head. Thankfully, the master of mediocrity has released a BRAND NEW version that will surely be as entertaining as an earwig for the next decade.

6. Minority Opinion here…

I Like Phil Collins…from his work with Genesis through his EARLY solo work — then he started writing stuff for Disney. Enough. I got off the bus right there.

I have fair copies of most of the tunes above; I see no reason to give him any more of my money, though.

Funny thing about Genesis fans; I don't remember who is was that said it, Tony Banks or Mike Rutherford: fans of the later Genesis stuff (from "And Then There Were Three") appreciate the older music more than old fans appreciate the new.

It's all in your perspective.

19. When Hackett left, it was easy to spot "The Genesis Sound"

Supposedly, it was a bit like George Harrison in The Beatles. Banks, Rutherford & Collins staked their claim as "the songwriters of the group," even though Hackett was a prolific writer himself. He was doled out one tune per album, and maybe a co-writing credit. He didn't care for that. He left. When he did, I realized how much "Trick Of The Tail" and "Wind And Wuthering" gained from his presence. I saw the band live in San Francisco on the "W&W" tour...basically the same set list as the double live "Seconds Out" that followed. Hackett's solo on "Firth Of Fifth"...LOUD, echoing all over Winterland...was a real jaw-dropper.

Collins was also the most amazing drummer I'd seen in my life. In tandem with Chester Thompson on "Los Endos," it was beyond description. When Phil morphed into Elton John and dragged the remains of Genesis with him, I gave up on the entire lot. Hackett still smokes as a solo performer. 2002's "Dark Town" got universally excellent reviews. It was diverse, adventurous, and captured some of the old Genesis vibe without being derivative.

The new album really wasn't worth the wait, in my opinion. I find the album he wrote for the Millennium Dome ("Ovo") much more satisfying.

...just like The Who, The Allman Brothers, etc. etc. etc. Live albums that won't show up in retail stores.

14. Worst sellout ever.

For a man to go from drumming on classic Eno and Gabriel-led Genesis albums to doing covers of to Sindei, or Syndee or Cyndie (however it's spelled) Lauper songs is inexcusable.

Easily one of my top 5 least favorite artists of all time.

She had some great songwriters. Eric Bazilian & Rob Hyman of The Hooters, Robert Hazard, Essra Mohawk (who sang on a number of Schoolhouse Rock cartoons), Jules Shear, Tom Kelly & Bill Steinberg (who wrote "True Colors", as well as "Like A Virgin", "Eternal Flame", "I Touch Myself", "I Drove All Night", and "Alone", among countless others) and Prince.

But that's still a long way from being the drummer on the "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" album.
