I'd vote "Jefferson Airplane". The group often sung about real topics and not the fluffy, saccharine, generic, and equally cancerous "I love you" crap (though they rather did early on, but even then there was a glimmer of something unique, thank goodness). "Lather" being a good example of one of their better ditties, mind the drug reference though... Of course, "Good Shepherd" and "Volunteers" can't be beat. And I'd want "Meadowlands" to be played at my funeral... O8) And as for "Triad", it's done infinitely more tastefully than the drek being sung these days on the subject... :wow: :evilgrin:

Three great singers; Levon Helm, Rick Danko, and Richard Manuel. Great Keyboardist; Garth Hudson and one of the best and most unique guitarist/songwriters in rock'n'roll...Robbie Robertson.

One of a kind and brilliant.

If I had to pick one song I'd pick "The Weight"

these are some of my absolute favorite THINGS never mind BANDS. (this is some group!)

But more favorite than the Beatles? Can't be. And I'm young.

I've listened to the Beatles since I was an infant, and haven't stopped for 30 years.

My craziness:

- I once thought they might actually BE the second coming of Christ- (the spirit being wisely dispersed into a group rather than sitting precariously in one easily-crucified individual)

- We had only Beatles music at our wedding

- I think that they were the greatest threat the VRWC ever had to deal with, which is why they burnt their albums in huge stacks.

- I actually consider them UNDERplayed (not as underplayed as the Velvet Underground, but still...)

And my fav album these days is Rubber Soul.

I love the political lyrics of Washington Bullets. There are other songs I like better for their musicality, but I like the lyrics of that song the best particularly because I learned about Victor Jara as a result:
