I couldn't tell if I was in the past, present or the future.

I was at a party, but I was trying to figure out if I hadn't really gone yet and was napping in my bed at home before I went to the party dreaming about what was to come, if I was actually really there at the party, or whether I had already left the party and was reliving the experience.

That, and if I concentrated real hard, time would slow down and the music would go in slow motion.

I never noticed that the hole in your eye (your iris, I guess) is really a fucking hole that goes into your head. Also, either I have unusually pretty eyes, or everybody's pupil is filled with wonderful patterns that can compete with any of nature's wonders, especially Hoebbel space photographs.

I did a lot of acid in college but rarely did we get truly good stuff - just a lot of really speedy crap blotter that was really fun for a few hours but then left you lying in your bed twitching and getting really annoyed with the fucking dancing carpet patterns on the backs of your eyelids and wishing you could just turn it off and get some sleep.

I finally quit, not because I had a bad experience or was going "crazy" or anything--it was just too much of a time commitment for something that was getting kind of boring to me, like I'd gotten everything fresh out of it I was going to at that point.

Mushrooms are just sweeter all around. They were harder to come by, though.

Haven't done any of it in 8 or 9 years, but I would love to again in the right surroundings with the right people.

I was at an outdoor rave some years ago and someone dosed me with what I thought was acid, but it turned out to be an acid cocktail with other drugs mixed in. There had to be some DMT or something else in there, because it kicked in in about 10 minutes. LSD takes almost an hour to be processed by your liver into it's working form. So anyways...

I was kind of scared, because I had not mentally readied myself in the 10 minutes I had. The last thing I remember was telling my friend "I think I'm gonna have a bad trip!" And he responded, "If you think it's bad now, you've got 8 hours to go!" Bastard. He was kidding, but it didn't help at the time.

Slowly, slivers of consciousness came slithering back into my awareness, but the process took hours. I was covered in sand, and mud, I tore my shirt and pants, and had a small gash on my belly. I lost my pager, and my Dad's cell phone was all wet. I found myself wandering around looking for all my friends for a couple more hours, and finally found them. I sat down with them to smoke a bowl. It was a grey and damp morning in the woods. One of them remarked, "Boy, you had some night!" They all laughed, but I didn't get it. Then they told me the stories. I thought they were lying at first, because it didn't appear to me that I had lost any time. The night seemed to have gone smoothly for me.

Apparently, though, there was a humongous thunderstorm, and it was literally POURING rain for hours. Lightning was crashing down everywhere, and I was raving mad. I was mumbling nonsense like I was possessed. I was thrashing around in the lagoon. I was yelling at people random utterings. When the sun came up, everybody at the party knew who I was, and there were thousands of people there. Some girl in a cowboy had I had never meet before asked me if I was okay. She told me that she was trying to calm me down at night. My friends had to sit me down and sit on my feet to keep me from wandering around and causing trouble. But what I didn't remember didn't compare to what I did remember...

The "trip" part was so intense that I didn't even realize my own physical existence at the time. I was at the edge of time, standing at the event horizon of the entire universe. I was looking on at the end, but then I remembered Einstein's theory of relativity. Time is curved! I realized then that the end was also the beginning, and I was the only one around. Therefore, it was up to me to end/begin the universe. It was a scary thought. That is a huge responsibility for a 19 year old, to create the beginning of all time and existence. If I failed, I knew the world would never be, and it would be my fault for ruining the universe.

But I knew I had to take the plunge. If I didn't do something, no one would. So I let go of my fears, and I felt my body being sucked through the giant wormhole that was the border of time and universe. I could literally feel my body being pulled faster and faster into a spiral toward an intense center of white light. My visual field was swirling all around me. My body was being whacked around violently. And suddenly, all was calm.

I was lying in a ditch feeling totally spent and wasted. But I could feel my friends and family calling. Johnny! Johnny! I had made it. I had fused the giant loop of time, and all was well, and my family and friends were okay. Everyone was so happy, and I felt like I was the hero of the world. I had saved the universe from extinction. Then I finally came to in the back of my friend's jeep. All was well.

On a tropical Indian beach I was alone (my friend I went with was sick in the hotel.) Goa Trance was blaring from the palm trees, and I had met this South African girl named Melanie. We talked for a while and smoked a hash joint. There were a couple of people from England there that were super cool. Melanie and I watched the sunrise in the sand while my trip peaked. All I kept thinking was "I can't believe I'm halfway around the world in paradise now." Some local Indian came walking down the beach with a ceremonially dressed cow in multiple colors. And no, that wasn't the acid I was seeing. It was a mild trip, and it probably will be my last. It was a good one to end on.

I was so embarrassed to be from the United States at the time that I said I was from Canada. Nothing like mingling with the international community when your country is committing genocide overseas. Those people probably wouldn't have cared, but you don't want to endure a night full of acid with people who would have.

The math is right, and my wife and I were really worried during her pregnancy that the drugs might have done some kind of damage (she tripped a few more times AFTER she conceived, before we knew she was pregnant).

Turned out that we worried for nothing. The girl is brilliant, top of her class, all GATE ed, consistently tests in the top 2% nationwide, straight A's, the whole deal. I don't know if it was the drugs, but we certainly did something right :)

Don't know if I'd ever work up the guts to do it, especially since I made it through college without having done it.

I saw it do some terrible things to someone I knew - I saw him at a party once and he cowered in the corner, clutching his knees with his head in his arms for like 4 hours straight. Other times, when he was coherent, he made little sense. You couldn't even hold a normal conversation with him. That was enough to keep me away from it.

Plus, I've heard other horror stories of bad trips from other people. At this point, I'd probably psyche myself out so much that a bad trip would be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Bottom line: I can't recommend it. I had some fun, but then it went bad. When it goes bad, there is nothing worse.

I know people who've done it a lot without problems, good for them. My "bad trip" was probably pretty common. I'm attending a concert of my then (don't ask) favorite band. A woman I'd been interested in for a long time was accompanying me on a first date. I was just peaking as the backup band left the stage and the main attraction began their stage setup and pre-concert music. I thought to myself "this is all too perfect, I'm going to overload". That idea echoed in my head, I could literally FEEL the adrenaline rush into my torso in waves. A feeling of panic overtook me and luckily the lady I was with handled it well when I told her we had to get out of there.

Later at my apartment things got a lot better :) but that was the beginning of the end for me and acid....

If you are 100% together mentally, acid is probably not going to hurt you. If there is a single chink in your mental armor, acid will reveal it to you and it will not be fun.

You couldn't have said it better. The acid experience forces you to get over your problems...otherwise your problems will get over you. I have had many self-improving, life changing experiences on acid. I guess I am lucky, though, and have been able to work through things while on the drug. If I had a less individualistic personality, though, things may have gotten bad.

It's not for everyone.

The fragility of perception is really exposed by this stuff, and, though I hate to say such a thing about a drug, one can actually learn and appreciate a great deal through the experience of it, at least under the right circumstances.

Although I am an atheist, I certainly appreciate now something about the source of mysticism; although I regard myself as sane, I can understand (both in a technical and experential sense) something about the roots of schizophrenia and other alternate states; although I am not especially artistic, I have certainly understood the complexity and depth and the subtle and often unseen relationships within various arts (especially music and painting) in a very different way as the result of lyseramide.

It certainly also presented certain emotional realities in a new light, clarifying some of them in such a way that stripped away the normal defenses that one uses to lie to oneself. On the brighter side, it can enhance the experience of being in love, and certainly the finest moments I experienced with that stuff were with my wife, in exploring her, and having her explore me. All this said, I actually oppose the use of drugs, not in the sense that I think that they should be illegal so much as in the sense I believe they are best avoided. It is certainly true that LSD can be bad for some people, and I know by observation that for many people I knew, the experience for many was anything but pleasant.

Nevertheless, I confess that though I do not miss many drugs and am much, much happier without using them, of all of them, the only one for which I have any nostalgia would be LSD.

In their dream world apocalypse was never far away. The delusions of grandeur they entertained were amplified by psychedelic drugs to the point that some felt themselves invested with magical powers. They wanted to change the world immediately--or at least as fast as LSD could change a person's consciousness. By magnifying the impulse toward revolutionism out of context, acid sped up the process by which the Movement became unglued. Even activists who never took an LSD trip were affected by this process.

The use of LSD among young people in the US reached a peak in the late 1960s, shortly after the CIA initiated a series of covert operations designed to disrupt, discredit, and neutralize the New Left. Was this merely a historical coincidence, or did the Agency actually take steps to promote the illicit acid trade? Not surprisingly, CIA spokesmen dismiss such a notion out of hand. "We do not target American citizens," former CIA director Richard Helms told the American Society of Newspaper Editors in 1971. "The nation must to a degree take it on faith that we who lead the CIA are honorable men, devoted to the nation's service." Helms' reassurances are hardly comforting in light of his own role as the prime instigator of Operation MK-ULTRA, which utilized unwitting Americans as guinea pigs for testing LSD and other mind-altering substances. During Helms's tenure as CIA director, the Agency conducted a massive illegal domestic campaign against the antiwar movement and other dissident elements in the US. The New Left was in a shambles when Helms retired from the Agency in 1973. The files were shredded, according to Dr. Sidney Gottlieb, chief of the CIA's Technical Services Staff, because of "a burgeoning paper problem." or used any drug for recreational purposes. I don't even drink alcohol, although I have tried it before. I never liked it, and I have never been drunk. I consider all that stuff a waste of my money.

My dad was a hippie when he was my age. I got to hear all my dad's drug stories many times growing up. That was enough to completely turn me off from drugs. Also, the majority of my friends used illegal drugs in high school. I though they acted like complete morons when they were using. One of my friends was even a dealer. He totally messed his life up because of drugs. He has been in a out of prison a few times already.

we also used to get very good windowpane from a grad student in Kansas who made it himself- his girlfriend went to our school and was our pipeline...it was very fresh and VERY good, without all that teeth-grinding speed you find in most blotter. my favourite acid trip started on a very snowy night, walking throught the big cemetery at the south end of the campus...everything was so...crisp. just beautiful and peaceful. then that all changed when we went home- put on Robert Fripp, watched tv and did a lot of maniacal laughing.

The first time was the weekend before I graduated college. I dropped with an ex-girlfriend who I was reconciling with, and we had a pretty cool time together. It was during that trip that I learned to appreciate the Cocteau Twins on an entirely "new" level.

The second (and last) time was during Lalapalooza 1992. We dropped before we went there, and we arrived at the tail end of the first act's set (Lush-- who were still in their shoe-gazer phase). Next up were Pearl Jam, who everybody loved, but who I thought were pretty unremarkable.

The atmosphere at the whole thing was really oppressive, with a bunch of jock-college-boy wannabees drinking wine coolers and smoking weed. Lots of cops, too, so the paranoia level was really high.

I started peaking right as it got dark, and MINISTRY came on stage. What a fucking mess. At the time, a bunch of the wannabees started bonfires around the stage, buring cardboard and grass and whatever trash they could find. It got really smoky and annoying and totally bummed me out. The whole fucking thing degenerated into a giant frat party. By the time the Chili Peppers closed the show, I was angry, sick and paranoid as fuckall, as some little nark had called over the cops on us when one of my friends lit up a joint.

That was the last time I touched LSD, adn that was over 12 years ago. I doubt I'd ever do it again, if given the chance.

Sorry but this is funny. Dropping acid in a crowd is generally a pretty bad idea. I freaked the first time and it was at a rave. The second time was with a few friends at home and the experience was much much more enjoyable. Ah but that's the past for me too. I wouldn't do it again.

Did mushrooms another twelve. I had a great time but I got it all out of my system. I have no desire to do either of them again. The only thing I regret never trying is mescaline. I hear it's quite a trip, but it's just not that common anymore.
