What show's cancellation pissed you off?

I know I'll be in the minority, but I liked Denis Leary's The Job. I wrote ABC angry e-mails about it.

I was also upset at the cancellation of Once and Again w/Sela Ward.

I understand that you pretty much had to get in from the beginning, and it was up against the Practice, but I was in from the beginning, and I was hooked.

I heard they aired a "final episode" where they sewed up all the loose ends, like 9 months after they stopped showing regular eppies, but I'm glad I missed that, unfortunately

"Soap" (1977-1981) was a classic - and first to feature a gay character, I believe (Billy Crystal as Jody). "When Things Were Rotten" (1975) was a Mel Brooks TV show about Robin Hood (not to be confused with his movie, "Men in Tights") that was hysterically funny. "Hot-L Baltimore" (1975) was another sitcom that was funny and considered racy for 1975 - it starred James Cromwell and Conchata Ferrell. Last, but not least, "Fridays" (1980-82) was a late night sketch comedy show that introduced us to great comedians like Michael Richards and Larry David.

Each one was a favorite show of mine, each one unceremoniously canned.

10. In retrospect, Freaks and Geeks

It's my favorite show of all-time and only lasted for one season.

However, since I didn't discover it until it was in reruns I guess I was as much at fault as anyone else for its untimely cancellation.

ON EDIT: Oh yeah, and also The Spin Room: Bill Press and Tucker Carlson's political talk show that appeared after the 2000 election and lasted just a couple months. My first introduction to the ever-so-grating presence of Tucker Carlson, but Bill Press is great. Also, Donahue: I didn't think it was as good as it could have been (too much emphasis on human interest stories the longer it was on- although, I think much of this was due to pressure from MSRNC) but it wasn't bad, and it sucked to lose one more rare liberal presence on the cable news circuit.

Every week was like watching a movie. Until The Shield came along, EZ held the record for darkness among TV shows. Then, after 4 eps it was put on hiatus, after 5 more - *POOF*.

I also liked Grand, a bizarre comedy about 15 years ago that lasted two seasons.

There was an ad one night during Homefront, saying "Do You Love Homefront? Call and tell us why and you could be selected to appear in a commercial for it." I actually got through twice and left messages. I had to go in and audition for it (scary). I couldn't believe I was one of the people they selected to be on the ad!

I was sad that the commercials didn't even help it. :(

Many of the shows you guys listed, I also loved. I recall the insanity of the situation. Usually they changed the night it aired, more than once, so the viewers didn't know where to find it. Then it was threatened to be cancelled. Then even after much public feedback begging them to keep it on, they cancelled it anyway.

YET shows I just don't get and in fact HATED they seem to work their asses off to keep on the air. Case in point, Two guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place. Was I the only one that just didn't see the appeal of this show? They are really pushing Joey--which I haven't heard many people say that it is GREAT by any means.

"He & She" was a sitcom starring Paula Prentice, Richard Benjamin, Kenneth Mars, Hamilton Camp, and Jack Cassidy. It aired for only one season (1967-68). It was the fore-runner of many of the ensemble comedies of the '70s - in fact, many of the people who worked on "He & She" later went on to develop "The Mary Tyler Moore Show".

"WKRP in Cincinnatti" was just too good to be cancelled. Especially when it was replaced with the totally lame "Square Pegs".

I loved that show but it lasted barely one season. It was about a 30-something Italian-American woman who decides to return to college after her engagement breaks off. She lived with her parents, who were played by the wonderful Ellen Burstyn and Paul Sorvino. And her smart-ass cop brother was played by Matt Dillon's brother Kevin Dillon. Good cast, good writing, bad time slot. All the ingredients necessary for an unjust cancellation. Just like My So-Called Life and Freaks and Geeks. Those network tv execs have a way of breaking my heart every few years or so. x(

Nothing Sacred was about a Roman Catholic parish in the inner city and was, according to a priest I know, probably one of the most realistic depictions of parish life ever seen in popular culture. Of course right wing types got bent out of shape about it, and it was unceremoniously cancelled. The network also played that obnoxious game of preempting it.

I also was a fan of Homefront and was really sorry to see it go. The cast was wonderful, and I recall that they dealt with a great many issues -- union organizing, the polio epidemic, etc.

And I was annoyed when they cancelled The Brotherhood of Poland, New Hampshire. I was just getting used to the characters and the plot lines when it was pulled from the schedule, and probably with only a run of a month or two. The cast was great: Mare Winningham, Elizabeth McGovern, Randy Quaid.

I'm still pissed. It was one of the very best shows of all time. I have friends who still often stay up til like 3 or 4 a.m., just because they can still catch reruns of it at that ungodly hour.

I used to watch the reruns over and over, back when I could get them at a decent hour.

Damn, I miss it! And it's been years! Now I am GETTING EVEN MORE WORKED UP! AAAARRRRGH! Then I have to see Janine Turner looking like her makeup was applied by a mortician on some commercial for tear replacement drops???

Not just the cancellation, but how they cancelled it. First, jerking around the schedule so that even devoted watchers like myself never knew when it would be on. Then finally dropping the axe after the season had already finished filming, so that they couldn't do a proper final episode.
