I know my dad does, and my grandpa when he was alive too, neither lost their manliness. In fact the only one out of my uncles that don't do it is my rich uncle, he has accountants do that for him. :)

Works for me as I'm a better budgeter, and got us out of debt! It took about 5 years, but we no longer have any credit card bills.

When I handled the finances, I let one check bounce in two years. He couldn't even go two weeks now that I don't take care of his money matters. I think he still wants me to (probably says a lot about my character since we're going through a divorce), but frankly, I have enough on my plate at the moment.

He manages a department with a 7 or 8 figure budget yet he has trouble with a checkbook. It's hard to understand.

Your ancestor from 40,000 years back would bring back the day's hunt, and hand it over to their wife to cook. He would then go sit down at the campfire to drink fermented stump water and brag to his mates about how he managed to corner that bear single handedly.

Then the loving wife would bring him his meal to give him strength for his next day of battle to keep the family nurished.

Today, you bring back the hunt (your paycheck) and your wife budgets. Works the same same as 40,000 years ago, except you probably have to cook your own meal and wash the dishes.

...did the "gatherer" part of "hunter-gatherer" while the men hunted. And the evidence shows that they actually fed the family more than the hunters did. Most prehistoric diet was plant matter. The hunt failed more than succeeded, which is why they'd celebrate when it did succeed. That animal protein was hard-won and a real dietary boost when it did come.

But the fruits of hunting were unreliable, and the fruit of the female gathering process were what tided folks over day-to-day.

But it seems counter-intuitive that if most of the diet was plant matter and more easily attained, why didn't the men just go grab an ear of corn and plop their lazy asses next to the fermented stump water? I mean, it would be a whole lot safer than running out to challenge a Grizzly bear with a couple of semi-sharp rocks and a stick.

I also wonder why in the all the cave drawings that I have seen, you always see the hunters chasing deer and buffalo. I'd like to see the drawing where the hunter is staring down a cabbage with his bow and arrow.

At any rate, you cannot say that as a matter of course, prehistoric diet was largely plant matter. That may have been true in certain locales. It certainly wasn't true of the Plains Indians who wandered vast territories in search of meat, and moved their entire villages to chase the migratory path of buffalo. Unless you want to make the argument that these tribes were hopelessly stupid, which they were not.

Unless archeology has changed dramatically since the visit I made in the 80's to a dig with archeologist friend of mine, the key tells they looked for in sites were discarded animal bones, mounds of clam shells, and tools used for butchering. Obviously these artifacts would last a whole lot longer than discarded carrot tops, but the pure volume would seem to contradict your argument that the hunt was usually fruitless.

BTW the point of my original post was humor, I am not trying to make a modern day argument for the benefits of Neanderthal societal organization.

Both our checks are direct deposited, we each have check cards. He spends way, way more than I do, but that's because he thinks he earns over $10million a year. (Trust me, he doesn't)

I don't know of a family who doesn't have the wife do the bill paying, etc.

My hubby deposits his check (my check too) & I pay all the bills.
I also make more money than he does, but I would not have been able to if he had not worked while I went to college.
We are a team.
