The single version's solo fucking blows. It sounds like it was sent through a fucking blender and then transposed into some convoluted as-of-yet-not-named-because-it-fucking-blows key.

25. Here's a bit of little known Beatle trivia.

The master tape of Let It Be actually contains both the guitar solos playing at the same time. George Martin, who produced the single, preferred the softer, organ like version. Spector thought the other solo fit better, and it's one of the few things he got right on that record. I don't know what take they used on the so-called "Let It Be Naked" but it was not the original master in any way shape or form.

Let's just say if you are familiar with both the old "official" Let It Be album and some of the numerous boots that have surfaced from those sessions (Some 500 hours of tape in total) you know that Paul & friends took a great deal of creative license when they claimed all they did to that album was "De-Spectorized" it. Some things worked great (Across the Universe, for one) but others did not. I ain't about to turn in my original CD. Or any of the alternate versions either.

26. I believe the Naked version uses a solo different from both

the single (solo recorded April 1969) and the original album (solo recorded January 1970). I believe the solo used on Naked is the original solo recorded in January 1969.

Listening to Naked a few weeks ago, I was actually surprised by how many ideas they borrowed from Spector's version.

A few examples:

"Dig A Pony": The "all I want is" vocals are edited out of the beginning and the end, just like in the Spector version. This isn't the case in Glyn Johns' versions.

"Get Back": The take recorded inside Apple Studios is used, as in the Spector version. Glyn Johns' version used one of the rooftop performannces, IIRC.

"I Me Mine": Just like Spector's version, Naked edits the song to extend its length.

Frankly, I prefer Spector's album in many respects. Apart from the heavy orchestral overdubs on "Long and Winding Road" and "Across the Universe," his mixes are very sharp and clear - clearer than the Naked versions, in fact.

As for "Across the Universe," I think the best Beatles version of that song appears on Anthology 2.

I really like the acoustic rhythm (I guess you could make an argument it's more of a "lead") part in Norweigan Wood... it fits in perfectly and effortlessly with George's sitar.

Man, I forgot how much I love that song... it's so awesome.

The only thing I really resent John for is killing the Sgt. Pepper's concept... it was supposed to be much more than a blending of the first two tracks and a reprise of the opening track at the (sort of) end.
