What musician should get a film biography?

This past weekend, I was able to rent "Ray", a decent (and yes, Jamie Foxx should win the Best Actor Oscar. A superb performance) film biography of Ray Charles' life.

My question: what other musician/performer should get a film biography?

And not only because I love his music, I just think a movie about his life in particular would be a pretty fun tale to tell. Hell, I'd be happy with a well made movie about the whole Haight-Ashbury/San Francisco music scene from say . . . '64-'72 or so :)

I think Eastwood only produced it...great nonetheless, but I thought the original poster was referring to something like "Ray", where it's an actor playing the role....

But to satisfy, Duke Jordan or Jimmy Smith would be deserving of a biopic/Jimmy Smith, especially Jordan, who is an excellent pianist, and I think for part of his life spent time as a taxi driver?

And, you're also right, in that it's not a biopic. It's more a documentary since Monk is actually in the movie throughout.

But, there wasn't really a terribly high amount of drama in Monk's life. I think his intrinsic weirdness might have caused some internal pain, but he was widely accepted for his genius very early on, had plenty of friends and was not a routine victim of rampant racism. Not sure that would make a good movie.

I'd go with Jordan, but i wouldn't care to see a movie about Jimmy Smith. I have never found his music all that interesting. Nothing not to like. Just nothing to really glom onto.

I'd watch a movie about Tal Farlow, Django, or Charlie Christian, though.
