1. HOW MUCH?
What kind of car do you have?

Why do the calipers & rotors have to be replaced? If you're going to pay that much, you may as well put out the cash on some good aftermarket 4 or 6 piston calipers.

What computer parts do you need for yours? I've got parts laying around all over the house. And if there's a local Freecycle group in your area, you might try posting there for what you need for your computer. You can check at http://www.freecycle.org.

12. Mobo and CPU are both fried, I'm just going to upgrade them both
anyway and get an Athlon64 and new mobo, but keep all my other parts.

14. CPU
I have an AMD Sempron processor, 2.4 GHz that was used for about 3 months. The mother board it's in is good too, except for a broken circuit in the power button plugin.

10. 2001 Nissan Sentra SE
This is apparently a fairly common problem on newer Sentras (from what I've been able to find doing basic research). Unfortunately, it's a few thousand miles outside warranty.

3. Why in the Hell?
Do you need new calipers? Unless they are siezed, or the pistons are blown?

9. Siezed, that's why I need to get the job done to begin with.
Rear passenger side locked up and destroyed the rotor, pads, etc. Rear driver side is pretty well blasted too.

4. It used to always be $400; now it's always at least $800. Sorry.

5. calipers should be $30 to $80 the most if you buy them yourself & mechanic
should be able to get them for less than you...maybe you need to find a new mechanic?

8. $30 - $80? Not likely
I was expecting $200-250 so that wasn't a surprise.

6. Wow!! And I thought the $600 I paid for a brake job
was a lot. The Ford dealership did the work and they are more expensive than anyone. I think you are getting ripped off.

7. Hmm...
Check with junkyards... well not plain old junkyards but here they have scrap places where they have lots of cars and you can pull the parts off that you need.

You can have an old rotor in decent shape turned and save money there, and possibly use old calipers, too.

Why do you need to replace the calipers, anyway?

Can you do any of this yourself? I've done all this work with my dad, although it was years ago... not terribly difficult but it does require some tools you may not have, however you can rent those.

Just some suggestions... good luck.

11. 10 years ago, I probably would have done it myself, but now
I have no garage to do it in, I live in Massachusetts, it's winter, and I have no tools. :).

13. Sorry to hear that.
Saves a bundle!

I think there are places down here you can rent to do the repairs in. Most apartment complexes here forbid you to work on your car in their lots... found that out the hard way.
