Poll question: What to do...
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 10:26 AM by thom1102
Life has me at an interesting intersection, and I was wondering what you all think I should do. I have this really cool idea for a new business to start... I have zero experience owning or running a business, but my partner has a business degree, so he could advise me in that area. My idea is for an errand service. Basically, I would spend the day running errands for people who are really busy at work, and would otherwise have to spend their off time doing their errands rather than relaxing, or enjoying time with their families. There really is no competition, and, especially in my area, where the insurance industry is huge, there are a lot of professionals with families making above average salaries, there could be a strong demand for that kind of service. I am very excited about the idea, but I am currently in college (nights) to become a Physics teacher, while working full time during the day. I think that I would really like being a teacher, but the salary issue is worrysome. I am steadily growing to hate my job. The pay and benefits are nice, but the rotating schedule and the bullshit are getting too much for me.

So I am asking you all for advice. Should I:

1. If there are to be regrets in life...
Regret doing something rather than regret not taking the chance.

The world according to MaineDem. :)

3. I usually live by that philosophy...
This time I am really torn, because I really could go either way: Physics Teacher, or Entreprenuer.

2. Go for it!
The only reservation I would have is the timing, with the economy and all. I'm not as optimistic as the newspapers about recovery. But you could still pull it off, and that is a really good idea, imo.

4. How about
continue to go to school part time and run your new business part time to see if it catches on, then if it does , quit school and do it full time.

5. Hmmm...
Interesting... I have heard that starting a business is a full time endeavor for two people. Do you think that could work? My main concern is the time that I would be running errands would mostly coincide with when I would need to be in class. Maybe I should ponder this options a while longer. Thanks!
