Poll question: For the Bush State of the Union address...
Will you watch or listen to Bush's State of the Union address, or do something else?

1. In order to watch, I'd have to have a drink.
I cannot STAND the sound of that man's voice.

2. I hear ya. It grates my nerves, too.
I hate to shirk my citizen's duty, but I'm likely to be in a movie theater that night.

14. I'd have to have an entire bottle!
One drink just wouldn't cut it I'm afraid.

7. Yes -- the rebuttal & commentary. That might be the only --
-- part worth it that night. Good strategy.

And a very, embarrassingly late 'welcome' to DU.

4. I will catch the highlights at DU
and in the paper. If I watch I will probably require a new TV before the end of the speech.

8. Yes. A new television and probably an entire new lease --
-- on the apartment in my case.

9. Yes. A drinking game where we all swiggedd whenever --
-- Dubya says "freedom" would drown us all.

We'd have to have flood insurance.

I lose more TVs that way though.

10. You're a braver soul than I, politicaholic.
Right there on the front lines.

(Maybe in honor of your sheer courage, DUers will pitch in and get you a new tv set...)

12. I'll read the lies the next day
I don't think I'll be able to tolerate listening to that evil sonofabitch deliver all his lies, misleading statements, ambiguous nothing platitudes, and downright obfuscatory politicizing.

I can read all that shit the next day.

I'd be tempted to watch the bucket o' lies he'll be dishing out if I knew that the rebuttal would have a democrat who would actually criticize the shit, but I'm sure they won't. They'll get some loser fuckwad like Lieberman, or any one of the other 42 lazy fuck sitback and do nothing dems to offer the rebuttal and they'll say such controversial things as "Well, the president's speech was strong and good, but he was slightly off on a few areas, and I think I can find a place to disagree with him on some subtle aspects of Social Security, The War in Iraq, and Gay marriage...so, without denigrating our fine president, let me just briefly mention the few points I think he could have been clearer on...."

Fuck that bullshit.

YOU'RE A GODDAMNED LIAR, YOU FAKE ASSHOLE PRESIDENT!!!!! AND YOU'RE A WAR CRIMINAL! THE SICKEST THING GOING ON THIS COUNTRY RIGHT NOW IS THAT THE SENATE IS ALLOWING A KNOWN DESERTER, WAR CRIMINAL, AND TRAITOR TO SPEAK!!

FUCK YOU!!

17. Rabrrr, you're right if the networks get Lieberman to --
-- respond, but I think it's the party leaders' decision, isn't it?

I betcha Joe's phone won't be ringing.

Who would you send up there? I'm thinking someone like Barbara Boxer, given her recent fire on the Senate floor.

I really would tune into that.

13. Why should i watch him lie to me?
I can watch something else, read a book, or any number of other things, and be all the better for it.

18. I'm in your camp on that, donheld.
You have some good bookshops in Denver, too, don't you?

I wouldn't blame you one bit if you were in one of them that night instead of home listenig to Dubya fib on national tv.

15. I will most likely start watching
mostly because I like hearing speeches (that will be debated) in their entirety since the talking points afterward misrepresent and the spin is sickening. I want to have my own opinion and reaction - not what Paul Begala fires off as a one-liner. But the truth is, I will probably not be able to handle it after about 5-10 minutes. His voice is like nails on a chalk board. His arrogance is frightening. His smirk is nauseating. So, for my own mental health, I will probably turn it off.

19. Yes. His smirk is nauseating. I have watched his --
-- addresses up to this point, but I just don't think I can do it this time.

I could respect the party of Lincoln, but not the party of Nixon/Reagan/Bush/Bush.

Especially THIS one.

16. I'll watch as much as I can.
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 11:20 PM by Ready4Change
I no longer believe this Presidents words. Too many times I've heard him say one thing, then do another. I've now taken to reading not just between his lines, but behind them, and in dismay I've found that my conclusions far more accurately predict what this administration actually does in the end.

So I'll try to listen, as it is still the President of this nation speaking to its people. But I can no longer promise to sit through the whole thing, when what I hear is so deliberately, avoidably, destructive to the nation I love.

The United States and it's people deserve better, but on that night we'll hear from what we've got, and pray we can make it through the next 4 years.

I'm headin' to the movies instead of listening to the First Liar.

Should I see FINDING NEVERLAND a second time?
