One could probably say the same thing about any song that Duane Allman played on.

35. He moves the slide up past the fretboard, over the pickups.
He plays notes where there are no notes to be played.

Clapton, meanwhile, just wanks away and sings (inasmuch as one can call his nasal wheeze "singing") about fucking George Harrison's wife.

36. You're Reinforcing My Point
I like Duane's work too, but playing beyond the fretboard could be considering wanking, too! Depends on one's perspective. But, that album is outstanding, and is Clapton's finest solo moment, and Tom Dowd's production masterpiece.

One can be a Duane admirer without being a Clapton basher.

37. Oh, that album is CERTAINLY Clapton's finest post-Cream moment.
But for most of that, I give credit to Duane. ;)

Shhh... I'll tell you a secret, though: I really love "Bell-Bottom Blues."

15. The guitar solo in Layla
is one of the more grating solos in rock history. Kinda like in Dumb & Dumber when Jim Carey says, "wanna hear the most annoying sound ever?"

I love that part. The song is itself is good not great. Better than Cocaine which has to be the most overplayed and worse songs in rock history.

I'm not sure what the absolute best would be but three contenders, IMO, would be Led Zeppelin's Rock and Roll (far superior to Stairway to Heaven), Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb or The Rolling Stones Sympathy For the Devil.

45. I consider it one of the best PERFORMANCES of a rock song.
I make the distinction because when I heard an acoustic version of the song, I really didn't like it, so I concluded that it's not the song itself that's great; it's that particular Derek & the Dominoes PERFORMANCE of the song that is great.
