2. At Least Vegas Didn't Explode
They just burned oil. I should know - I had a '73 Hatchback, red like the one in the ad with white stripes.

16. Anything is better than a Pinto/Bobcat
I had a 76 Bobcat in college (in 1985-6). It was the biggest piece of crap I ever drove, along with a 78 Horizon, which was equally bad. I didn't have the incinderary Bobcat, I had the little woody wagon. It was the hatchbacks that had the fire problem.

21. OMG -- after the Vega, I wanted an Omni (Horizon)
then a Volkswagen Rabbit then an Audi 5000 ... I knew nothing about reliability back then, just knew what I liked the looks of.

3. So are there actually any Vega's left out there?
Most of them that I ever saw were gone in three or four years, although I saw one once that a guy souped up and took to the dragstrip. It is unknown whether the car held together or not.

10. In my small city, I have seen both a Vega and a Pinto...
both are in relatively good condition too...:)

I have a 1979 Datsun 280ZX I am trying to restore. It should be one beautiful scream machine when I'm done w/it. Mechanically it is fantastic, but like the Vega and Pinto, it suffers from rust...:)

Money is the problem right now, but I should get most of it done by summer...:)

The "Z" rated tires I need are $95 each...

18. OK, NoSheep, I am a dummy
...YOU HAVE to explain that bit to me about the seeds germinating under the back floor mat. Was that because the thing was rusted out and seeds came in, or was that somehow deliberate? A cultural trick I was never clued in on?

Hopelessly uncool, I am, I guess....

6. whew! I remember that typography style, that really tight kerning.
Jeez, it looks so dated, and at the time I thought it was great.

Sorry, graphic designer here.

9. memories
driving to WV from DC to go climbing. 2 quarts of oil each way. With wider than stock tires I could make feather it from understeer to oversteer through the corners.
