5. Hang in there
Atkins is great........MY son went from 335 to 164 and is never hungry on it....Many people have seen these results and call on him for info on Atkins. You really need support to do this. Eat the brownies and start all over tomorrow.

7. I'd like to begin Atkins but don't think I could do without
my beloved Mountain Dew. I don't drink diet sodas because of the Aspartame they contain.

I guess I could still drink the Dew but accept a slower weight loss.

What can I eat during the two week induction period? I know it's not really a variety of food...eggs and a lot of meat.

18. regarding sodas
No aspartame or salt in Diet rite.......great flavors in the Midwest of tangerine, white grape and red raspberry, no tangerine on the WEST Coast.

Diet Hansen's also has great flavors...without the aspartame or the caffeine. You can drink as much as you want of it.

for what to eat check out www.atkinscenter.com click how to

25. I've never seen tangerine Diet-Rite in the midwest
There is also a cola flavor. They use sucralose (Splenda) and acesulfame potassium, sweeteners ok'd by Atkins. Much, much better tasting than anything with aspartame in it.

9. If it's a sign of encouragement....I've lost 43 lbs. since March.....
On Atkins. If you can at all afford it, stock up on the many, many low carb substitute foods out there. There are so many of them, and while you may have to experiment with some stuff that doesn't suit your tastes, I can guarantee you that there are other things out there that are even better than the real thing.

Most of the Atkins brand mixes (brownies, muffins, cookies) are quite good, as are their sub-brand Morning Starts. They make some great cereals and such.

The key is to not beat yourself up over it. Try, experiment, try again and eventually you will come up with stuff you like.

10. Five Pounds? Three weeks? No problem.
Light exercise every other day (20-30 minute brisk walk), low fat diet with lots of fresh veggies and some fruit. Eat less volume all together and drink Tons of water.

Atkins devotees will have a close relationship with a cardiologist sooner or later.

13. I lost 80 pounds on an Atkins spinoff diet
I eliminated sugar completely. Nothing white - pasta rice bread potatoes. Starch turns into sugar. Sugar is a carbohydrate. I eliminated the carbs by killing the sugar before it became a carb. It took one year but I lost 80 pounds. It does work if you can do without all the good stuff.

16. the break-and-break kind
I prefer Ghiradelli, but they had them in the refrigerated section at the store, and they have pumpkins and bone decorations. Thought the kids would like 'em. But dang, put a pan of steamy brownies in front of me and all diets are off!

17. thanks, everyone, for the well-wishes!
Other than the brownie mishap yesterday, I'm doing okay. I'm not doing real Atkins, I'm just cutting simple carbs and upping my protein intake. Eggs for breakfast, salmon for lunch, chicken for dinner (brownies for midafternoon snack :P )

So far, so good. I don't have much weight to lose so I'm not going to stay on it beyond Halloween.

21. Good luck and
don't forget to eat veggies, too! 2 cups of salad veggie and a cup of some other kind (excepting potatoes and corn and the like, natch), per day. Also do the "tons of water" thing. I'm on week 2 of the Atkins induction and have lost 6 lbs so far.

*sigh* I wouldn't, however, mind a brownie.

Good for you! Keep with it. I still need to read what I'm actually supposed to be doing... just kinda going with what I've heard so far. Veggies are cool, I like veggies.

19. My Atkins Must Haves
Crystal Lite Peach Tea - I water it down a bit because it's too strong for me.

Nuts, pumpkin seeds, beef jerky and salmon.

Omelettes for breakfast.

Whipped cream and fresh strawberries.

I haven't even really missed snacks. I don't weigh, but I've lost 2 sizes in about 6 months. And since I'm on this for the long haul, I cheat on occasion as well.

20. some suggestions.....
Forget about going on a "diet".

Bottom line is that you must burn more calories than you consume. The premise to Atkins is alright, one should pay attention to carbs. Though I believe one shouldn't become obsesive about it. The dange with eating carbs is that carb are turned into fat fairly quickly. Compound this with the backwards traditional eating in our society of having our "big" meal for dinner (all too often really late and louded with carbs), this just isn't good for maintaining or losing weight.

Switch around your eating to where you are eating 3 -4 small meals a day. If you are exercising regurlary you do not need to worry about the carbs, just watched consuming carbs late at night. (IE do not have a huge pasta dinner in the evenings) If you work out in the afternoon a small portio of pasta may not necesarrliy be a bad thing. Quit drinking your calories and switch to drinking only water. (Meal replacement shakes not included)

Above all get a handle on portion size, and you should do alright.

22. I really hope you guys on Atkins are taking vitamins...
Because people have gotten vitamin deficiencies while on atkins. Also, it will totally screw up your kidneys...people have died. Please be VERY CAREFUL with this diet. I strongly urge you to do some more research on this plan, because it can be dangerous.
Duckie.
