What was your worst playoff experience?
In 1976, shortly before my 14th birthday, our family went on vacation to California. I was pitcher on my softball team, and we kicked total butt until the tournament, which took place during my absence. We lost the first game to the worst team in the league. I always liked to blame myself, but there is no "I" in "team."

Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 05:10 PM by JohnKleeb
with a team I was on, I came in relief and pitched brilliantly ala Moe Dzarmosky in Game 1 of the 1966 WS and we won then we played the Braves and they hammered us, sigh, and then my baseball playing days went down hill.

8. Don Denkinger calls Jorge Orta safe at first in the 9th inning
Of game 6 of the 1985 World Series, even though Todd Worrell had clearly beaten him to the bag. This idiot call enables the Royals to stage a 2 run rally and effectively steals the Championship from the Cardinals.

9. We played one softball playoff in such deep muck that it was like glue
nobody could get to first base - our feet got stuck - but on the bright side, no one could get to the ball to field it, either!

We lost a game once when a husband and wife left us short-handed because they had made an appointment for a sitting for a family photo!! That still grinds me. Fittingly, though, they are now divorced so that family photo was a big waste of money.

13. 98 World Series. Padres - Yankees, Qualcomm Stadium.
Bases loaded, Pads lead, I beleive it was Sterling Hitchcock pitching to Tino Martinez, throws strike 3 with 2 outs on an attempted check swing. Watch the replay, he broke his wrist, he's out, inning over. Catcher asks for an appeal to 3rd, Ump calls it a ball. Next pitch, Martinez drives it into the bleachers for a grand slam. Yanks go on to sweep my Pads.
Steinbrenner paid off the ump once more.

Kenny Rogers walked in the winning run, thus causing my Mets to lose to the Braves. I had high hopes for that year, it seemed like it was their destiny to win the WS
