Arsenio H. & Eddie M.--What's the deal? Anyone else
remember that they were VERY close during the 80's and early 90's? Why are they acting like they were NEVER friends now?

I know, who cares? Well, I don't CARE, but it bothers me. Here's why--

There was a show on Vh1 about the Arsenio Hall show. When asked who his favorite guest was, I was shocked to hear him say 'Will Smith.' Particularly after the giggling fits he and Eddie went into on the show. They always responded, "private joke' and laughed even harder. Seriously they spent what was supposed to be a full hour of an interview--laughing their asses off and nudging each other.

Does anyone but me remember this? Has anyone else wondered what became of their 'very close friendship' and why NO ONE talks about it? I would think this would be huge entertainment media fodder.

It's weird, they were so close, they were together constantly during the time Arsenio had a show--Arsenio made appearances in all of Eddie's movies (Coming to America, Harlem Nights, etc.) yet it seems since Eddie Murphy married, he and Arsenio were no more. Or maybe around the time Murphy was picked up for picking up a transvestite in West Hollywood. Either way, they've both pretended they were never friends. What gives?

Do they (and Hollywood) truly beleive a whole generation of us just forgot?

Please, indulge me in my National Enquirer moment, if you will. ;)

1. I've certainly tried to forget Arsenio Hall
What a f-in' moron. WOO WOO WOO WOO WOO with the fist up in the air, his shitty interviews, his mostly crappy monologues, and his band sucked.

Blech.

That's a career that is gladly over and done with, since it never should have happened.

Still, I have no idea what happened betwixt him and the Murphy man. Perhaps after Eddie cleaned up, that was the end of the relationship.

2. True--I sometimes wondered how he had a show at all.
I guess he got lucky as he subbed from time to time when Joan Rivers had her show--someone liked him and he got a show.

It's just weird. It hasn't been hard at all for me to forget Arsenio. LOL! He's a forgettable guy. I guess that's part of why it's been so easy for so many to just buy the idea that he and Eddie never were...

A few guys from West Hollywood that I knew told me looooong before Eddie was picked up that Eddie and Arsenio used to cruise the area a LOT. That everyone knew Eddie's jeep and the type of ...ahem, 'guys' they were into.

3. When they said on the news
that the police picked him up when he was crusing SANTA MONICA BLVD, it confirmed my belief that he was either gay or bi. Back then, staight men that cruised for hookers (or "taking a night drive" as Eddie put it)could be found on Sunset blvd.

8. Funny you should say that, ariesgem. Male friends of mine
have said that very thing. Exactly what you said.

This may have something to also do with the fact that he does mostly family films now--as if he made a conscious effort to reinvent himself and change the reputation he had up to that point.

4. Eddie Murphy MADE Arsenio
Arsenio would have NEVER been famous without Eddie Murphy's say-so.

That talk show was P-A-I-N-F-U-L.

Anybody remember some science fiction parody movie that Arsenio had a cameo in? All I can remember is laughing my arse off when his necktie got caught in the garbage disposal. It was called something like "Earth Women are Easy" if I remember correctly.

5. So what's Arsenio up to, now that he's
successfully kicked Jay Leno's ass?

6. Any way you cut it,
Someone's ego is involved.

Either that or they didn't want to become the next Martin & Lewis.
