There used to be legitimate reasons for leaning Republican. Fiscal responsibility, non-intervention in foreign countries, retention of traditions, maintenance of social norms, individual rights with responsibility etc. Bush and the current Republican Party represent none of the things. Not even close. In fact it can easily be argued today that these values are better represented by Democrats.

5. Too true

In the U.S. today the more central dems are the only people that line up with the actual philosophy of conservatism. The republicans are in fact reactionaries. Conservatives only wish to slow the rate of progress, but they do see progress as the eventual goal (just not so quickly) The rupugs actually wish to stop progress and in many cases turn back the clock. On a good note, the totality of history is behind us, and as always within the next 40- 50 years (if the BFEE doesn’t blow up the world) history will look back on the things we fight for today as being as inevitable as the end of slavery. The fight is hard, but we are bound to win.
