A funny Hummer defacing story-
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 10:40 AM by LiberallyInclined
a budy of mine drove his Hummer into Chicago yesterday, to do some business at Northwestern Medical Center on the north side...
He's a great guy, has his own business, can afford the Hummer, and it's a good car that makes sense for him because he has a large trailer he has to tow often...I don't begrudge anyone having whatever car they choose- it's their money.

So- my buddy finishes up, and when he comes out to the street where his car is parked, and some college-aged kid is spray painting the Hummer- so he goes up to the idiot, and calmly asks him what he's doing...the moran starts going off on how awful Hummers are, and that people who drive them are asholes, and they deserve to be destroyed, yadda, yadda, yadda....
so my bud says "well this is your un-lucky day, because this is My car..."
punk tries to get tough & defensive- "oh yeah, well what are you gonna do about it...?"
so my bud says "well this is your REALLY un-lucky day, because I'm a cop" (did i mention that he's also a police officer in the south suburbs?)

Long story a little shorter- some total moran's father probably got a call sometime yesterday asking for bail money, and to borrow some money to get a car detailed and possibly re-painted.

sometimes there IS justice in the world!

2. Vandalism is wrong
Owning a Hummer is immoral.

If your friend needs a truck to tow a trailer then he should use it for that and drive something sensible or use mass transit when not towing a trailer.

20. whatever . . .
It is gluttony. It is a sin according to most every moral code. If you don't ascribe to ANY moral code then I guess it is OK to be a glutton.

I would love to hear it.

I suppose things like converting farms and forests to luxury golf communities is a moral imperative in your world.

I have a truck too. Mine gets 30 MPG. I am far from perfect though I think you will find yourself in a very small minority around here if you think Hummers are just honky dory.

he basically got the hummer for FREE, because of the way the puke-controlled congress wrote the tax code regarding the depreciation of heavy trucks purchased by the self-employed.

I'm willing to forgive the miles per gallon if the ride shows demonstratable pimpness...Unfortunately, the hummer is severly lacking in the pimp department. Poor soul, spending all that money on gas and not reaping the rewards of a tricked out ride.

Vandalism is wrong, of course.

However, I still believe that guys that drive these ghastly ugly monstrosities unnecessarily (such as in the city) do indeed have eeeeety beeeeety teeeeeny weeeeeny pencil dicks, and will not believe otherwise without proof. :)

Driving them around a farm or something is obviously reasonable and sane. City, not so much.

8. If you really want to make a statement
get business cards printed up with facts comparing Hummers to average cars; i.e.-- how much more gas they consume, how much higher insurance rates are, etc.

Then, if you see a hummer, just put a card under the windshield wiper. You get your point across without being a jerk.

I hate Hummers (posermobiles, for at least 99% of their drivers), but still think it's wrong to physically harm them. Placing a flyer, card, sticker, etc gets the point across in a more constructive way.

34. If the guy can afford a Hummer in the first place...
he's going to be able to afford to get it repainted (going on the idea that the young guy didn't realize he'd get caught). He would continue to drive it. Vandalizing it just means that extra pollution will be released in the form of having the SUV repainted.

Too, how much pollution is released in the manufacture and use of spray paint?

Vandalism is not the way to go.

49. Two wrongs don't make a right.
Defacing someone's property is wrong. No question about it.

However just because you can afford something doesn't mean you should buy it. There are plenty of vehicles that are good for towing, it doesn't have to be a Hummer. And, unless he actually was towing something at the time, why was he wasting the gas and causing a huge obnoxious (not to mention dangerous) obstruction for other drivers just to go into the city? If he's wealthy enough to afford a Hummer then he's wealthy enough to purchase an additional car that he can drive when he's not towing anything-- perhaps maybe a hybrid so he can begin to make up for the damage caused by his planet-sized environment-killing monster truck?

I live in Chicago, and I can tell you that the streets are not made for vehicles like this. It's impossible to see around them, get around them, and park around them. Nobody who lives in or has business in the city should be driving giant SUVs. There are plenty of AWD or 4WD cars and wagons that are safe, can get around in the snow, and can carry your groceries and kids. If you need to tow something, fine, use a truck for that. But unless you're towing something every day, there's no excuse for these vehicles as every-day cars, especially if can afford two cars.

So yes, I do begrudge people spending their money on Planet-Mobiles because it affects my environment, it affects my commute, and it affects my safety. But most importantly IMHO, America's ever-increasing need for oil caused in great part by Hummers and their gas-guzzling breathren is helping keep the BushCo evil empire in power. That is down-right unforgiveable as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry for the long rant. I just really hate these vehicles.
