Is Ace Hardware a supporter of the Dems?
I've had it with Home Depot, no clerks, do your own check out with long lines. I went to Home Depot and left my filled cart, no way am I going spend an hour in line. I went to Ace was out in five mintues plus they are willing and available to help. There was easy parking at Ace, Home Depot parking lot was a mess just like the pukes.

1. Home Depot also has the highest rate of customer accidents and deaths
and is strongly supporting Bush's tort reform to put a cap on awards to victims.

2. Within two miles
we have a Home Depot, Loews, Menards and Sears, but about a mile away there is an Ace Hardware. We pay a little more at Ace, but you walk away with a good product and your sanity. We support them for a number of reasons, one is we want them to be a success and stay here, the employees seem happy and paid a decent wage and it makes me nastalgic for the little Mom and Pop stores we had when I was growing up. But you are right, parking about 20 steps from the store, a smile, knowledgeable help and you're on your way. I hope they support the dems, but I think I would still support this little store anyway.

3. I think they're franchises.
I don't know if the Ace Mothership supports bush or not (big businesses usually do), but the individual store owner probably has his or her own politics. All the Aces in my area are openly conservative.

4. Indeed ... My uncles ran
a couple ACE hardware stores in the Syracuse area. That is until the mammoth stores dropped anchor and squished them out of business.

Unfortunately, my uncles I suspect are Republican. Seeing that one of them went on to become a Republican Town Supervisor.

Cheers

5. Oh well
I am no longer going to buy at Home Depot. I can't handle that mess and the fact no one cares.

6. I've got some good Home Depots around here.
I make it a rule never to go on weekends or during the day. Monday-Thursday at night is a good time. Since every hardware store I know of leans right, I'd be out of options if I boycott based on that. For me, it comes down to understanding the differences between the smaller shops (A&A Trading Post, McGuckin, Rockeler) versus the bigger shops (Lowe's, Home Depot).

The big stores go out and find a good deal on one product. It may not be the best one out there, but it's a good one and they're not ashamed to sell it. Then they buy a billion of them to get a bulk rate. You can get good prices on ordinary tools like this.

Now if you go to Home Depot to buy a new sanding belt, they'll be happy to show you where it is. But at a smaller shop, they might instead recommend a rubber belt cleaner to get more life out of your existing sanding belt. Better advice. And when it comes to specialty and hard to find stuff, the smaller shops are the place to go.

7. I'm not sure, but I go to Ace
I support neighborhood stores, not Big Box monstrosities.
