8. Thank you. I keep remembering more memories. I am going to have
to add them to my thoughts section. Lkie the time she started the car at the laundrymat and drove into the side of it. Took the windowsill home under the fender!

2. The site is beautiful.
You've made your mom a real person for those of us who didn't know her. I lived in the Blue Hill Area for years and I wonder if I ever crossed paths with her. My heart goes out to you in your time of sorrow.

13. I'm afraid to look, since I am here at work
...and I know I will cry.

I will look later, after my kid is in bed.

I'm really really sorry for your loss. My mom is my best friend, and I don't imagine I would be able to function without her.

40. Rest assured, she knows
That's a beautiful tribute and proves that she's a great Mom. I'm sure you showed her every day those same feelings (in many different forms, lol...speaking as a Mom ,myself)
It's so tough to lose your Mom, I know. I lost mine in 1998 but I've come to feel that she's never that far away...
My condolences to you and your family.

35. Me too. This has been so awful for him. They have
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 09:33 PM by GreenPartyVoter
been together since freshman year of high school--44 years. His health has been precarious in recent years, whereas she (after coming close with death a couple of years ago in a freak accident) was getting healthier. She was down to 150lbs and was teaching exercise classes. We had no reason to suspect the terrible heartburn she had last weekend and the dizziness and lightheadedness the night before she died to be symptoms of heart troubles. I wish, when she'd had her physical a few weeks ago, they'd drawn some blood and checked her heart enzyme levels.

I think that a number of things may have been going on that explain why this happened, at least in the metaphysical sense:

1) My parents had an agreement that whoever went first would go in the arms of the other one. My dad wasn't there when she flipped her car off the causeway, so she walked away from it. He was there on Friday, though, so he was able to hold her in his arms and watch the light go out of her eyes. It is amazing that it didn't happen in her sleep, or when she was starting the car, or on her way to work. But everything was timed so perfectly that they could be together.

2) My own thought is that when she flipped off the causeway she was given some choices: go now, have another 15 so-so years, or almost 3
great ones. Obviously she opted for the last one.

3) I also wonder if she knew, at some level, that my dad is so ill that he might not be here much longer, didn't want to deal with tying up all the loose ends, and very much wanted to be with him again soon. So she just left first. (His BP the morning she went was something like 210 over 120. It's a miracle that he didn't just have a stroke and follow her, but the ambulance crew was keeping an eye on him even as they worked on her. It would not surprise me in the least, after we have set up her scholarship fund and fixed up the house to rent out to teachers who need an affordable year-round home, and sorting out what needs to be done when dad goes... that he will in fact, go. Not on purpose... but... it could happen. He may just be hanging in there out of sheer willpower right now.

You are going through so much right now.

I'm going out of town next week, but when I come back, I'm going to pack up some books and send them to the library in honor of your mom.

37. Thanks so much. I couldn't afford to sponsor a wing for her, but it is so
nice to know that strngers and friends alike might take out some of those books and be surprised and smile to see her name inside the cover.

We are going to make bookplates from her artwork for the books my own family sends over. And also for her textbooks, which will be donated to the school union.

43. Mom was terrific. I am already wondering what we will do without her.. we
needed her for so many things. She always came to my rescue when we had to do artsy-crafty things for school as a kid, and she was helping my oldest son that way too.

It will be weird and sad, not having her around when we make up Halloween costumes or birthday party decorations (we made the coolest basketball pinata for Ian's party last year. It was so thick, it took the kids ages to bust it open.)
