*I SENT SOME BEANIE BABIES TO IRAQ*
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 08:36 PM by Skittles
Yes, one of the packages I sent to the socaldem platoon was a box of beanie babies (with note: please give to the Iraqi kids). I got them from a coworker who inherited them from a sister-in-law; she had them in the trunk of her car.

Here is an excerpt of the letter I received today from Michael B:

(we received the package)... "It all played out perfectly because the next day we had to go clean up an elementary school which was packed with little girls and boys. The second I gave out the first toy to a little Iraqi girl, it was all over with. The kids flocked me like a pack of wild dogs. It surely was a beautiful sight to see how happy those kids really were. You did a tremendously warm-hearted thing Susan. I managed to take a few pictures. I'll make sure to send them to you as soon as they are developed. What a great idea. You know the little kids are the ones that truly suffer from all this shit."

just stuffed them in a box, taped it up and the postal service did the rest. Took me all of ten minutes. :)

8. You didn't need an address or a contact first?
The post office was just able to get it there to someone who could use it?

9. no, you do need a name/address
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 09:22 PM by Skittles
you must have a name and address. I got one from one of our DUers, SoCalDem. She's friends with a lady whose son is in Iraq. We've been sending care packages to him and his buddies in the platoon.

I sent packages during the first Gulf war when you actually COULD send to any soldier - I sent many packages to ANY TEXAN. But due to the new security concerns, a name and address is required.

If you are at all interested, send a PM to socaldem. Do a little research in google (military care packages) for tips on what to send/what not to send. For example, pork and porn are an absolute no-no.

13. Ok. I'll do a little research
My two daughters have WAY too much, (only grandkids on both sides) and have hundereds of beanie babies and stuffed animals. This might be a way to put them to good use.

11. Cool
I have a ton of Beanie Babies. I think I might be too selfish to give them up though.
