Dana Reeves can kiss my ass! Such disrespect to her husband!!
Her husband Christopher Reeves fought tooth and nail for stem cell research and vehemently opposed the decision by Bush to shackle this technology.

The only way that Christopher Reeves would even contemplate showing up to a Bush press conference would be if Bush decided to 100% overturn his horrible decision on this technology. But we all know that is very unlikely.

By showing up to Bush's Press conference, Dana Reeves just spit in her husband's grave. Shame on her!

1. I thought she was showing up as sort of his conscience, to remind him
of her feeling that stem cell research is needed. Did she say something different?

Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation Statement on Dana Reeve's Attendance at Tonight's State of the Union Address

2/2/2005 11:27:00 AM

To: National Desk

Contact: Glynnis Breen for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, 202-887-0500 ext. 26 or GBreen@witeckcombs.com

WASHINGTON, Feb. 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following is a statement of Spokesperson Michael Manganiello, senior vice president of Government Relations for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation:

"Dana Reeve, as the newly-elected chairman of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, is attending the State of the Union as a guest of Congressman Jim Langevin (D-R.I.). The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and Congressman Langevin have worked tirelessly to secure strong bi-partisan support to advance research, rehabilitation and quality of life programs for the more than two million Americans living with paralysis.

"Mrs. Reeve is looking forward to hearing the President's vision with regard to the funding of medical research through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In addition, Mrs. Reeve is eager to learn about any expansion by the President of his New Freedom Initiative, a plan to foster the full participation of people with disabilities in all aspects of life.

"Mrs. Reeve is no stranger to Washington. She joined her late husband many times over the past few years as they educated Congress on numerous topics including a landmark piece of legislation bearing her late husband's name, the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Act. The bill complements the NIH Roadmap, an initiative advanced by President Bush to encourage collaboration and coordination among researchers, Federal agencies and the private sector. The bill also supports the health promotion and disability programs of the CDC, the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research, and the Veterans Health Administration.

"Mrs. Reeve looks forward to reintroducing the legislation with strong bi-partisan support in honor of her late husband with the hope of improving the lives of over two million Americans living with paralysis.

"Mrs. Reeve and the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation will continue to carry on Christopher's legacy that Nothing is Impossible." ------

Dana Reeve Will Attend President Bush's Speech, Hopes for Stem Cell Funds

by Steven Ertelt
LifeNews.com Editor
February 1, 2005

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Dana Reeve, the widow of former Superman actor Christopher Reeve, will attend President Bush's State of the Union address with the hope of hearing him propose additional funding for stem cell research.

Reeve will attend the Wednesday speech at the invitation of Rhode Island Democratic congressman Jim Langevin, who opposes abortion but strongly supports embryonic stem cell research.

Dana Reeve, recently selected to replace her husband as the chair of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, endorsed John Kerry during the presidential elections and attacked President Bush's policy prohibiting federal funding of new research that involves the destruction of human life.

"It is truly an honor to be present as the president outlines his agenda before the nation," Reeve said in a press release. "I look forward to learning what plans he has to further scientific research and improve the quality of life for millions of Americans living with paralysis and other debilitating conditions."

~~~~~~>>>> Langevin told the Associated Press "it is my hope that having Dana present at the State of the Union will help refocus the nation's attention and the president's attention on stem cell research and the need for more funding."
In August 2001, Bush put forward the policy against funding new research that destroys unborn children. Instead, Bush has spent more than $190 million on research involving adult stem cells, which has already produced dozens of treatments and cures.
Reeve will likely come away disappointed as the president has twice recently reaffirmed the moral principles behind his policy.
In an interview with the New York Times last week, Bush said, "destroying life to create life is not ethical" and that "whether it happens in the private sector or the public sector, it doesn't change the ethics."
Earlier in January, the president spoke to hundreds of thousands of pro-life advocates gathered for the March for Life.
President Bush explained that the controversial issues of human cloning and embryonic stem cell research must be tackled from a pro-life perspective.
"We're also moving ahead in terms of medicine and research to make sure that the gifts of science are consistent with our highest values of freedom, equality, family and human dignity. We will not sanction the creation of life only to destroy it," Bush said.
The president has endorsed legislation in Congress to ban all forms of human cloning, both for reproductive purposes as well as to create human embryos to be killed for research.
13. Exactly
She can watch the speech from home since we all know squat would be said about Stem Cell Research or anything done about it. She should be out there doing a counter speech as to why Bush is such a vile man
14. yeah, that would get support for what she wants
it's not just about Bush but she can influence other Republicans and just the general public to get behind her cause which is how things would really get done.
and she also campaign and appeared with Kerry before the elections and not long after her husband died because she knew how important the issue was and that Kerry was the guy who really supported it.
she isn't naive or stupid.
15. She's going to have better luck through state & private sectors
Californa has opened it wide for Stem Cell research ear-marking their own money for this research. In order to counter the technology serve in California; NJ, Delaware and I believe PA are going to do the same thing on the east coast with providing opportunities for stem research in their states (http://www.dbi.udel.edu/news011205.html - they don't want to lose all the researches to California).
She will not get anything from Bush. But she can get what she wants from states who are ignoring what Bush decided and private sectors willing to invest the money into this research.
Bush is a joke and she should not be there. Might as well go ask him to autograph her SOTU program like that Dino Obama did
