42. Because he has to
Kerry acted all nice to Bush during the debates, even though he privately said "How can I be losing to this idiot?" Quite simply, if Obama spat on Bush, he would have no chance at getting the respect of Republicans, something he will need to do to advance his political career. Obama will become president if he can get Republicans to think "Maybe he isn't so bad after all."

It's America....... free speech and all that.

I get what your trying to say- but it sure seems like your trying to call me out as either a "freeper" or someone who "isn't party loyal".
To me it seems like your trying to create problems and rile things up around here.

I'm not trying to DESTROY anybody..... LoL. I have to laugh at that descriptive as it is ridiculously dramatic.

I'm voicing a thought, a concern, an opinion. Your seeing it as something much more sinister & crazy.

Do you really think I (or anyone else here for that matter) could post such a tiny, inconsequential thing about someone and DESTROY them?

Chill

48. listen, all i hear is that this guy is the future of the democratic party
and from what I can tell so far is that it's business as usual. Someone posted the other day that freshman or not, the Repub Senators never hesitate to vote straight party lines. Obviously, the Democrats should, and for the most part do, hold themselves to a higher standard. But so far, the excuses I've seen used to validate his votes just don't hold water. Yes, Rice was going to be confirmed anyway, so what better opportunity to cast a protest vote against her, especially in light of the race card that the Repubs were so quick to draw? Who was he going to offend? This golden "centrist base" that we all hear so much about? The problem with the party is that they base too much of what they are doing to appeal to this nonexistent base of moderates who aren't going to vote for them anyway.

I still have to know, and I ask this with all sincerity; what great things do you expect from this man? How long do we give him before he performs to his purported ability? I'm not posting this as flame bait. I really want to learn.

50. I believe
Obama is a real, honest person who is going to fight for the people of Illinois, who is going to represent our interests first and foremost. People forget that he's not the US Senator from the whole country, he's the US Senator from the state of Illinois. I believe that he can help us reclaim the word liberal from the right wing fanatics that have held it hostage for so long. He'll be a voice for minority issues and you can bet when the judicial appointments come around, he'll stand up. I see so much potential in this man, and it sickens me to see these people tear him to shreds for something as trivial as requesting an autograph from the President of the United States. Judge him on his record, not just a couple of votes. If after a year in office he turns out to be another Zell Miller, I'll gladly eat my words. But attacking him after one month on the job, and for stupid shit like this is ridiculous.
