Every ad I've seen referring to the Super Bowl has called it "the big game", except the actual ad advertising it. Is there a reason for this, or am I missing something?

I remember radio stations offering tickets had a heyday calling it "that game we can't name".

3. The NFL only licenses certain advertisers to use the term "Super Bowl"... |
|
Kind of the way the IOC does with the Olympics...so the rest of 'em are stuck with "Big Game".
