Women Arrested For Bringing Laxative Brownies To Work

A bad batch of brownies has led to assault charges against two certified nursing assistants, ex-employees of The Meadows, Otsego County’s former nursing home.

Pamela S. Schultz, 41, of Oneonta and Laura A. Montalbano, 34, of Cherry Valley have each been charged with second-degree assault, said Investigator Michael Ten Eyck of the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department.

They were arraigned in Middlefield Town Court on Monday, released on their own recognizance and are scheduled to return to court at 5 p.m. March 7.

Ten Eyck said Tuesday that on July 4 the two women "were attempting to get even with a male staff member by leaving brownies that had a laxative in them" out for him to eat.

"But he didn’t eat any of the brownies," Ten Eyck said.

Instead, three female co-workers consumed some of the brownies and became ill.
