3. Watch CNN today. They are doing clips of him campaigning.

He's serious. He said it started out as a joke, but now he's getting lots of support.

I just went to his website and ordered some posters, bumper stickers, and tees. Can't wait until they come in. I'll probably offer some of the bumper stickers on our freecycle group. :D

6. Apparently the problem is that in order to run as an independent,

you have to get a ton of signatures of people who did NOT vote in either the Repub or Dem parties. In order to really run, Kinky's going to have to put together a huge grassroots effort, or pay someone a lot of money to collect signatures. I honestly doubt he's gonna want to do the work.

And all of the hard core political activists are not gonna pass up the choice to vote in their primaries, especially the Republican primary, which is likely to feature a Gov. Goodhair vs. Sen. Bighair catfight of epic proportions.

We'll see, this race at least is going to have the merit of being entertaining.

a real statewide race can be. Texas is HUGE. Ron Kirk's Senate campaign took 15 million dollars.

Anyway, I'd love to see him win. Unlike many politicians, he's got a big cult following and will get a lot of publicity for free. Hell, CNN did fifteen minutes on him today at no cost to him.

I think his campaign is clever, and, at any rate, he will give the big boys (of both parties) a run for their money.

Whether or not I'd like to see him WIN depends on who we put up as the Democratic candidate.

I also don't like what I read in the recent My San Antonio article:

The candidate said he would consider running as a Democrat, though he didn't sound enthused.

"If the Democrats came to me and said here's $30 million, you know, we'll put this together, we'll try to make a centrist Democratic Party that brings things back to the great era of (John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson), we'll make it moderate, we'll try to get the Republicans and independents aboard, and we will win," he said.

I see TWO really big problems with that. #1. The Texas Democratic Party has $30 million dollars? Bwahahahahahaha. In what reality do YOU live, Kinky? #2. I don't want or think that the Democratic party needs to move any farther to the right. I mean, shit, the entire political spectrum has moved rightward. Fuck that noise.

Kay Bailey Hutchison may go for the Republican nomination for Governor. Our Comptroller, Carol Keeton Ryland, is also interested.

The latest "Texas Monthly" had a big article on the most powerful Texans; I haven't had the stomach for it, yet. But a text box listed Texas politicians fading from power. Perry was one. (DeLay was another!)

I'd dearly love a good Democratic candidate, but Kinky has his charms.
