Woman Runs Over Her Husband - Drags Him 415 Feet
<snip>

PRATTVILLE -- An Autaugaville woman is facing assault charges after running over her husband with a vehicle and dragging him more than 400 feet.

The incident occurred about 9 p.m. Tuesday in front of 206 MeHarry St. in Prattville, Police Chief Alfred Wadsworth said.

Sandra Nixon Thompkins, 32, of 467 Shiloh Circle remained in the Autauga Metro Jail on Wednesday, arrest reports show. Bond has been set at $10,000.

Gene Earl Thompkins, 37, of the same address, was taken to Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. He was listed in critical condition Wednesday.

Sandra Thompkins struck her husband with a vehicle as the couple argued in front of the MeHarry address, Wadsworth said. After she hit him, she dragged him 415 feet.

"I heard a lot of arguing, then it got kind of quiet," said Shella' Jackson, who was visiting friends who live on MeHarry Street. "Then I heard somebody holler, like, kind of a scream. I didn't think anything else about it until I heard the sirens and saw the ambulance and police show up."

More serious charges may be filed as the investigation progresses, said District Attorney Randall Houston. He called the case "unusual."

"I can't recall anything like this happening before," he said. "The thing we try to get people to understand about domestic violence is there's no excuse for it. If you can't live together, go see a lawyer. Divorce is much better than murder."

1. only assault charges?
You would think that would be attempted murder or something considering she dragged him for so long.

5. I thought the exact same thing.
I sure this guy's cellphone wasn't damaged though. Because that would be just horrible!
