Bifocals...I don't get it
I can understand needing help to see things up close. I can even understand needing glasses for far away. But have one set of glasses for both- it's just not right.

6. Well...not really.
I wear the contact lense version of bifocals. It's called mono-vision. One eye is for reading and the other is for distance. Not many people can adjust to them easily, but I started with them so gradually, I never noticed. I also have "bifocals" - or gradient lenses to be more exact. I love them.

7. I have bifocal contact lens eyes.
I'm nearsighted in one eye, farsighted in the other. Natural bi-focals, my ophthamologists always said.

3. I've got scientific proof that people who need Bi-Focals are....
...likely to be subversive communists.

8. Really?
What's your take on people who need trifocals?

I've always found them a little suspicious.

19. It's two different problems
I used to work in an Opticians whilst at school, and so whilst bored would actually read the piles of guff which they produced and patients never read.

There are four main problems which affect people, short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism, and being old (I can't remember all of the proer Greek terms as I've drunk much wine this evening).

I am short-sighted and astigmatic which means that I can't see objects far away clearly, however as I get older my eyes will get too tired to focus on things very close to me. Therefore in addition to the normal correction for things in the distance, I will need an added boost for things close by. This is what bi-focals are.

The main lens is designated for one's normal sight (I think that I am something like -1.5 dioptres), but then there is the added boost for close work (say +1 dioptre).
