I know how this feels. The Braves have so many good players and yet come the post season they all play like they are late for a bus.

I would suggest a new manager, one who knows how to win in the post season (and one who knows the post season is not the regular season).

Before I sign off here remember the words of the late Barlett Giamatti talking about the end of a Red Sox Season: "It breaks your heart, it is meant to break your heart".

"Knows how to win in the post-season." Give me a break. If that's the only criterion of being a good manager, then are you telling me the only decent managers in the world are the Torres and Showalters of the world? The Braves continue to win their division and go from strength to strength. Most teams in the league would give their teeth to have Bobby Cox bring them that kind of success. Have we become so jaded by frothing over the "playoffs" and winning championships that we lose focus of long-term success? I don't know about you, but I'll take the manager that regularly puts out a good team as someone more likely to get my team to the World Series than someone like Scioscia that has one Series win, then has the wheels come off his team.

After Huizenga, I expect there are about 10 Marlins fans nationwide, so I suspect I'm not the only one who will be pissed if the Cubs fail to take the pennant. And although the heart wants a Cubs-Sox series, the brain says it's going to be the Yankees, and the heart definitely goes all Windy after that.

They were consumate overachievers and that was one hell of a ride to take with my team. How often do you see that many mullets in one clubhouse!

That being said, they got beaten a better team. I see no shame in that....

Like it or not, the ONLY measure that matters when talking "dynasty" is World Series rings.

In this case, the Bravos are as much of a dynasty as the Marlins, D-Backs, Angels, etc...

The Yankees are it, and I don't even like them...

And now they're mired in mediocrity. That's no dynasty. I disagree strongly that the only measure is World Series rings, an attitude I consider born of jabbering sports-talk motormouths that have hyped winning championships to the point of absurdity. To compare what the Braves have accomplished by winning their division for a decade to what the Marlins or Angels did in winning once is ridiculous. Look at the number of teams out there that haven't won their division at all in the last ten years, much less even make it to the World Series. The streak of division titles by the Braves is one of the most impressive accomplishments in baseball history.

They've benefited from having some pretty crappy teams in their division:

Expos(most years)....Mets (most years)....Phils (every year except last two)...Marlins (except '97 and '03).

True greatness is proven in the postseason. Why do you think the Denver Broncos were a joke until they finally won it all?

..the difference is that the Braves don't "choke" like the other teams and disappear into obscurity like a fart in the wind after having a good season. The Yankees have had the D-Rays, the Cleveland Indians had the Tigers and the Giants had San Diego.

Everyone wants to win the World Series, but the functional goal of every team is to play winning baseball. No team has done that better in the last ten years than the Atlanta Braves. As for the Denver Broncos, I never considered them a joke and consider the attitude that there were a joke right up there with the idea that the Braves are or were "overrated." Would it have been better for the Broncos to not have made it to the Super Bowl? Should they have shot for something less than being the best team in the AFC if they somehow knew they couldn't get past the glory days of the Giants, Redskins and 49'ers?

This sounds like the attitude of the people that drove Paul Silas out of his coaching job in New Orleans. The team wins for five years in a row, but because people "expect" that the Hornets should have won an NBA championship, he becomes a sacrifice to the masses. His replacement? Tim Floyd.

The only team that's even remotely been as successful over the last ten years as the Braves is the Yankees. Everyone else has "choked" to the point of not even being able to win their division. :P

By the way, I'm still looking for a good explanation as to why the Denver Broncos should hang their heads for being the best team in the AFC for several years before winning the Super Bowl in the late 90's.
