My house was burgled today ...
Looks like a quick "break down the front door snatch-n-grab" ... they got cash, jewelery, cameras, and .... my handguns (which were locked away, they took the lock box and another smaller gun safe).

Funny thing is ... if I'd been home ... I probably would have used one of them. Mr burglar was very, very lucky ... unfortunately I was not :(

2. Well, good thing nobody was hurt
But for the record, I support "open season" laws that allow homeowners to shoot burglars who invade their homes.

If a person is in your house, and he's not supposed to be: Shoot first, ask questions later.

I don't care if the burglar is trying to get away, and you shoot him in the back as he bolts for the door; The thief forfeited his life the moment he snuck onto your property.

For the record, I am against the death penalty; Governments should not be allowed to kill.
The only time an citizen should be allowed to kill is when:

1) Your life, or the life of another, is directly at risk... and the only way to protect the victim is by the death of the assailant.

2) There is a burglar in your home.

5. Damn dude, that sucks to hear. Being burgled leaves a distinct
uncomfortable violated feeling, coupled with a hell of a rage towards the person that did it.

Hope you get your things back, or have homeowners insurance, so you can get better cameras for the price you paid for the originals.

8. Don't you hate that feeling you have now?
I've had 4 car stereos stolen in the past few months, and after the last one (2nd broken window) I started feeling like I actually wanted to beat the crap out of the thief with a baseball bat. That's not a natural feeling for me.

It doesn't help that the police don't care AT ALL that there is a serious crime spree going on in my neighborhood. I'm not the only one that's been hit.

11. That sucks dude.
I've been burgled before. The police are useless in situations like that.

It took a while for my feeling of security to come back, just the thought of someone going through my stuff and taking it made me both angry and insecure.

13. Thanks for the thoughts ...
I'm fully insured, unfortunately I'm still sitting at the airport waiting for my flight home! I got the call from my wife in the middle of a business trip and so I had to drop everything and hightail it back.

Grrr!!!

15. This happened to me. And, I got a burglar alarm. No problem since!
Please check it out!

I know how violated and insecure you feel. So, look into burglar alarm systems. They have a broad assortment to meet your budget.

Good luck!

:D

16. I HAVE a burgler system ...
motion detectors ... windows and doors alarmed ... coded panels etc ...

I just don't have it turned on cause I don't (didn't) want to pay for the service.

17. Chances are it was either someone who knew you...
either having been in the house at one time or was casing the place. At least down here in San Dag, the cops say the quickie burglaries are generally not done by strangers. Especially not if gun lockboxes and small gun safes are stolen.
Have you had any contractors in or around your house lately, or perhaps some kids (teens - early twentysomethings)around? When the people I know that have been burgled, it was either after contractors had worked in the house, their kids had started bringing new friends over or new kids had moved in the neighborhood and started hanging around the house.
My folks were burgled by a neighbor's kid (didn't get anything worth much because the dog at the top of the stairs scared him from leaving the basement he had broken in to).

Definitely sounds as if it were someone who didn't want any trouble.

Sorry it happened, guy.

Haele
