Anyone see the documentary "The Story of the Weeping Camel"?
Set in Mongolia, about a family that tries to reunite a baby camel with the mother who rejected it. Anyway, it's at the local video store and rottentomatoes.com says it's a beautiful movie; I think it's up for an Oscar, too.

But, I'm not one for sad animal stories, there's too much pain in real life and I can't watch sad animal stuff. Can't. Not emotionally equipped to do it, esp. not with Buttface in office for four more years (goddess help us, perhaps he will be impeached and convicted).

Has anyone here seen it? I'd like to rent it, if there won't be horrible images seared into my brain forever.

1. I saw it; it's worth a rental.
Beautiful movie, and not so sad that you'll feel depressed when it ends....in fact it ends on a somewhat happy note.

Rent it.

4. thanks for the recommendation...
our local video store is under new ownership and is trying to branch out with documentaries, foreign films, etc. and I want to support their efforts.

2. I just finished watching it...
and no, no horrible images (except one camel birthing scene). Very slow, but engaging story. It does an excellent job of making you think about how peacefully these people live at the edge of the desert and how they adapt to modern life.

In a word or two - definately see it.

3. ok, don't mind birthing scenes.
I guess I'll get it next time I rent a few movies. I'd love to see it just don't feel like being traumatized...

5. when that was playing here i wanted to go and support that movie
but i feel exactly like you. i just can not deal with emotional animal movies. even if they are ultimately happyish, if they are also wrenching then that is a place i cannot go. anything like animals and the heartbreaking sweetness of it all and/or them adapting to the cruel world of those trying to survive in a culture that does not and can not get emotionally attached to animals...

i do think babe is one of the best movies there is but it is a bit emotional and those arent even real animals!

i did so want to support the movie though... hope you get it and enjoy it

6. Avoid the movie 'Two Brothers"
I thought it would be a sweet little animal film, and I ended up sobbing through most of it. I guess that it ends on an upbeat note, but the rest of the movie; seeing hopeless animals living in fear, terrified cubs calling for their mom, tigers being whipped and shot-I just couldn't take it!

8. The movie is beautifully done
you can tell that the filmmaker has a great deal of compassion for the plight of wild animals (he also directed the movie "the Bear"). He creates a tremendous amount of empathy for his subjects; it would be a good movie to show to a child who wasn't being gentle with their pets, because it demonstrates that animals have emotions, too. But for those of us who already understand this, it's just too rough!
