Inspectors Find Dead Rat In Restaurant Deep Fryer
<snip>

CHICAGO (CBS 2) A Chicago restaurant famous for ribs and chicken is closed down for something that was not on the menu.

A health inspector discovered a dead rat lying in a deep-fryer trap. But the owners of the South Side restaurant told CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot the shutdown never should have happened.

"Back in the day, it was good, you know. I don't know. I’m surprised to hear they have rats and stuff like that you know," says Fitzee's patron, Keith Harley.

Long time patrons of Fitzee's Serious Ribs and Chicken on the Near South Side are stunned to learn that the restaurant known for its famous barbecue sauce and food was closed due to unsanitary conditions.

The Chicago Department of Public Health says this is the second time since 2002 that the place is shutdown for rodent infestation.

"Your nasty and you just filthy and you don't care, you just making money you serve people any and everything," said Fitzee's patron, Sinita Redmond.

A routine inspection last week, led to the discovery of "a dead rat in the deep fat fryer cabinet and they also saw live roaches in the barbecue pit, or on the outside of the barbecue pit," said Victor Young from the Chicago Department of Public Health.

"It makes you wonder you know if it’s been like that all the time," Harley said.

The owner of Fitzee's said that it hasn't. She claims in more than 25 years of business, she never had an infestation problem.

"I’m just simply sorry, I’m hurt, really hurt. We keep a clean place. The place is beautiful," the owner said.

She also says the current rodent and roach infestation came with the recent demolition of the building which was attached to the restaurant she leases. When the building next door was torn down, she says the creatures went to her business, to find a new home. She says she even hired a cleaning crew to fix the problem.

14. My brother managed a night club-
The patrons were complaining that the sodas had a strange taste. My brother tried hooking up fresh syrup, made sure the mixture of CO2 water and syrup was right. Still, weird flavor. He took apart the spigots that the sodas came out of and found many dead roaches.
