5. I have no problem admitting I've always liked Karen's voice.
It's just a shame that they had such overbearing parents, and that she ended up the way she did.

11. secret nothing... have always loved them, always will. AND,
I was a member of the group that opened the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach, CA. (Okay, irrelevant, but I'm inordinately proud of that little fact.)

15. They were so much a part
of my growing up that I can't help but like them still. My dad played them on the stereo, my sisters and I did ice-skating routines at the pond to their cassettes. :silly: They just bring back good memories and you have to admit, she had a good voice even if the songs were kinda cheesy.

28. "Goodbye to Love" was amazing.
It's an unbeleivably fucked-up arrangement for its time. I fully understand if you don't want to give it a spin, but cloying though they were, "simplistic" and "bland" don't always apply to their work.

OTOH, "Top of the World?" That tripe makes me killin'-mad.

33. No shame at all. Karen Carpenter had a wonderful voice.
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 06:47 PM by Bunny
I cannot think of too many others who had such a smooth voice. Although their songs were sappy and schmaltzy, she could sing! (Unlike so many of our current would-be "divas", who excel at vocal gymnastics and little else) Her story is so sad...
