married at 19 and my wife is still my best friend after 18+ years. That's not to say that we haven't had our problems, any couple will, but we have worked through them and came out stronger on the other side, because we are committed each other. I think sometimes today people are just lazy when it comes to relationships, it's just easier to call it quits. Believe me sometimes it would have been !

17. Like meegbear, I can't get "married" in America

However, I met my partner on March 7, 1989 and moved in with him 10/1/1989. Our union has been blessed by an Episcopalian priest (though I didn't realize what he was doing at the time) so I guess I'm as "married" as anyone here.

21. 19 and too damn young

I've been married for 12 years and I'm still married. My husband's 9 years older which helps as as far as I think he handled things better than if I had married someone my own age that young, but would I advise my daughter to do that? No, I've already told her wait at least a year after college (hopefully she'll listen). I was very mature for 19 and very responsible, but, in all honesty, didn't get enough time for me before all the obligations and responsibilities started.

He was a george w. bush-alike. I started out as young and stupid. It took me a few years to realize my mistake. I was too ashame to tell my family something they already knew; my husband was a jerk, a drunk, a cokehead, a lier, and a womanizer. I was raised with tremendous self-respect and whatever was going on wrong in my marriage just clashed against my values. I planned my escape and when the day came, I took off with my children and never turned back. I finished my college education, raised my children and gave them a college education. They are both professionals. My children are so much like my second husband; kind, gentle, intelligent, professionals. No one ever thinks that these are not his blood-children.

Got married at 36, first time. Had the dress, flower girls, all that jazz. Husband was 53 (really) but he looked and acted like a man in his early 40s -- and still does. We've been married seven years. No regrets for waiting, either.

32. I married at 16 yrs old and my husband was 21yrs old

We celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary Sat Oct 4th. Everyone said it wouldn't work but it has. We both continued our education after marriage and encouraged each other to do good for ourselves. We have grown closer through the years. I think God made us for each other, he is the love of my life and I know I am the love of his life.

29. Glad I waited

I was 27. He was 26. Strange thing is we knew eachother as kids (I first remember him as an 8th grader-a gangly tall blonde kid), even dated in high school, then went our seperate ways, went to college, found other loves, moved around, got careers, and 8 years later both happened to be single at the same time, a telephone call confirmed it and we realized that growing up a bit made all the difference. We fell right back into love and got married and now five years later are trying to get pregnant. :) I am glad I waited. I would always resent not having my "wild time" in college and as a young adult, learning about life at my own pace and in my own way.

I waited until I was 55 to marry for the first time. I said I'd never get married so I suppose this is one of those times I shouldn't have said never. This Christmas Eve will be our 3rd anniversary.

39. I was 24

at the time, so was my groom. That lasted for nine years before I called it quits when we were 34. I didn't want to, honestly didn't. I was taught never to give up and all of that jazz. But I was just exhausted, used up, empty. I had nothing else to give.

I haven't had a long-term relationship since.
