Poll question: So, do you drive a standard or an automatic?
I drive a standard and I live in a valley full of hills. I love driving stick, but nothing irritates me more that tailgaters, ESPECIALLY on hills! I had this experience in 5 O'clock traffic tonight with an SUV behind me and it really pissed me off! So, what do you drive?

1. Both, sort of.
My car has an automatic that also doubles as a clutchless manual. I never have it in the automatic mode. I like to keep the RPMs where I want them.

2. I've only had an automatic once in my life and really
missed having a standard. Gives you something to do instead of just sitting there and riding.

And I heard that standards are better on gas.

4. I used to drive a stick shift and I liked it a lot
but I live in Seattle and had EXACTLY the same problem smbolisnch described with people driving right up on my tail when I was parked at a hill. I got to where I would actually leave downtown on certain streets just because they were flatter. After replacing two clutches (one was a faulty repair), I switched to automatic.

6. Yep. If people would leave even five feet between cars
it would be fine, but they seem constitutionally unable to do so.

7. I use to drive a stick and loved it. I moved from New York to Miami
and got stuck in a lot of heavy traffic. As I was sitting in traffic one day I asked myself why I had a stick shift. The answer was - they're great for snow conditions. I sat there and looked at the palm trees for awhile and then asked the question again. My next car was an automatic.

10. Drive a stick
It's great on the back roads but not much fun when I'm stuck in traffic going to & from work. I live in the SF Bay Area so we have icky traffic every day.

Also, it keeps me from blabbing on my cell phone & doing my make-up when I'm driving. I see a lot of that when I'm on the road. Yikes!

I'll admit to being too blonde to drive and do anything else at the same time.

14. Standard, definitely
It's the only way to go. So much more control! You can hit a slippery patch on a curve or something, and by cleverly gearing down and tapping the brakes just right, get right back on track.
