Has anyone here ever taken a day off work to see a performer?
I did it a few times in my younger years. Stevie Ray Vaughan in '89 or so, Alice Cooper around the same time. Now I have earned vacation time, and gotten older and (supposedly) wiser, so I don't call in, just burn a vacation day. Although last year, I did call in when Eric Sardinas was near here. But mostly, I just take vacation or skip it. Is anyone else as nuts as that? To actually call in sick just to see a concert? If so, was it worth it? In my case it was. I met the love of my life at a Little Feat show, although I called in the next day on that one. Just wonderin'.

1. Yes, Phish and the Dead
Used to spend Spring Breaks following the Dead, and I've taken off work to see Phish (LA to Maine). Well worth it every time!

10. Me too!
My friends and I cut school every year on opening day. We froze our asses off, but had a great time.

I also left work early (with the blessing of my boss) to see the Bears victory parade after they won the Superbowl. Come to think of it, I froze my ass off then too.

3. I have taken vacation days
There have been a couple times where I probably should have called in because I was really tired after staying up late for the concert.

Does that count?

even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

6. Oh heck yeah. Day of, day after, too. Little Feat got me hitched
with my wife, too, albeit via a CD case on the desk in my office. (OK, cube.)

Her: "Wow, you like Little Feat?"

Me: "Dating anyone?"

14 years and two kids later we still get to all the Feat shows we can.

14. Well he's a big deal to us who love Blues
albeit not "traditional" Blues. He is a very good guitar player. Listen to his cd's sometime. And a question-did he have those two tattoos way back when? A snake and a dobro. One in front, one in back. You see, he is flamboyant. Alas, you'll probably never hear him on very many commercial radio stations in this country, even though he is opening for Steve Vai on Vai's current tour.

12. David Bowie
I won a ticket to see David Bowie and Reeves Gabrels play an intimate acoustic set for only 30 people at Sigma Sound, where Young Americans was recorded, in Philadelphia.

My husband and I both took off work for that unique opportunity!
