Woo hoo! Got my new computer speakers hooked up!!
First, thanks to all the people who helped me with the wireless keyboard and wireless optical mouse help I needed - found a perfectly wonderful set, which is being shipped as we speak - and at a price much lower than I was prepared to spend. SO! - I had money left over and thought "after my move, I can't find my computer speakers and it's driving me *(&#%^*#$% crazy, so let's buy a new set!"

So I did - it was a cheap set: the $38 Logitech X-230, two speakers and subwoofer, nothing fancy, but that's all I need. I don't use the computer to listen to quadraphonic art music for purposes of transcription, nor do I use it to watch THX movies with any desire to have THX sound coming from it...

These things fuckin' rock!!

1. Logitech's whole line of speakers is pretty decent.
I went with a higher end set myself (the Z-680 or some such). Mainly because at the time I bought them 2 or 3 years ago, the computer was my home entertainment center, had a TV tuner card and dvd software, it's all I ever used for watching anything :).

3. Nah, Bose is HIGHLY overrated.
Believe it or not if you actually compare a top-line Bose to a top-line Logitech, the Logitechs actually provide better and smoother frequency response :).

4. I've got the whole Logitech 5.1 shebang
I love it and can't imagine not having it. Even the usual computer sounds are just too damned cool, but I listen to a lot of music when I'm at the desk, so I can't live without it.

5. went from a pair of crappy get-by hand-me-downs
to the Logitech 5.1 about a month ago.

Love 'em.

Have the sub under the desk and the first time they hit, sending out a quick blast of air, I freaked out.

"What the hell was that?" - made me jump.

Now I just need to figure out how to run the television through them and I may never leave the room again. (Not that I do very often anyway.)

6. Oh, yeah - I've jumped more than a few times
Especially after I started using Windows Media Player with the SRS WOW effects and TruBass. It's like having a fan down there.

7. I have those kind of speakers.
They pretty much kick ass for as cheap as they're priced.
