OK, whats the best mattress?
Got to buy a new bed. Got an income tax return. So here lies the quandary, what is the most comfy bed. I am looking at the "foam" ones like the tempur pedic, also regular old box springs, hey even a water bed. Just one that I can wake up from with out my shoulders, lower back and legs all achy. So whats your personal favorite type and why? And hows it hold up?

2. Select Comfort

I know, cheesy commercials, but the adjustable air bed has got to be the best thing invented. Here is a link. http://www.selectcomfort.com/

I can adjust my side of the bed without disturbing my partner. I can also adjust it based upon how my body feels, sometimes firm, sometimes soft, depending upon how my back feels.

3. I have one...
... it is several years old. 2 of my boys have one also. The third gets his soon.

First off, it may matter and it may not - but SC advertises on Limbaugh, or at least they did for a time.

My older bed is very comfortable, but very noisy during vigorous activity :) It is my understanding that they redesigned the foundation a couple years back to solve this problem.

Other than that, I'm very happy with the bed. It is very comfortable and should last a very long time, certainly longer than any conventional mattress. The wife can have the firmness she likes, and me the fairly soft mattress I like.

Another company, Nautilus I believe, makes a similar bed. It might be worth doing a comparison....

5. Found similar "air" mattress online.
About half the cost of SC.
We love it for the same reasons you state.
Google "discount air matresses".

17. Agreed!
I just got a Select Comfort a few days ago. It has solved all my back and hip problems. It also is "stable", meaning that my husband can toss around and I barely feel it. I don't wake up when he gets out of bed any more! I really can't say too many good things about it! I wish someone had told me about it sooner!

19. Yep!
And, I've never even seen the infomercial. We tried the various mattresses in a mall store and haven't been at all disappointed.

4. Go to the store and lay on the foams ones for awhile
Then try and roll over. They quite literally trap you. And i only weight 130 pounds. We got a Stearns and Foster with a foam topper and are very happy. Of course, if you want to spend a lot of money, a bed and back store can really set you up. I would recommend that you buy from somewhere that lets you try it and return it. We had a Sealy from Costco and hated it after a week of sleeping on it. Thankfully, they took it back, no questions asked.

9. Our mattress hadsmemory foam but it doesn't seem to work
After a year, it has gotten uneven in some spots which aren't appropriate to our sleeping positions. We forgot to ask the salesperson an important question about its durability for lots of...activity. Perhaps when we have more money and get a place with more room, we'll have to get 2 beds, one for sleep and one for the other activity.

8. my daughter LOVEs her Tempupedic which she got with a
good discount because it was a floor model.

I am partial to my water bed. The warm mattress helps a bunch with the achy muscles. The new tubular water beds are really fascinating,

10. Mattresses are a matter of personal preference
You should hit the department stores and lay down on a bunch of 'em and discover the ones that make you feel most comfortable.

I personally prefer Serta mattresses -- Perfect Night models are the best, but Perfect Sleeper models are pretty good, too.

12. Waterbeds aren't good for your back.
That's what my brother-in-law says -- he's a chiropracter.

I bought a ridiculously huge pillow top mattress. It's comfortable enough but so freaking big it's hard to get sheets that fit.

14. thanks
I spent half the day flopping on mattresses all over the city of St Louis. Leaning to the memory foam, I only weigh about 110, so I am not "sinking" and I notice on that style I don't have a gap between my lower back and the bed.

Its pretty good as far as it goes, but the real test is sleeping on one.

In 2005 the state of California intituted its new flammibility standards of mattresses. Now a mattress sold in that state must pass the TB 603 fire retardant standard that essentially requires a mattress not to burn when subjected to an open flame on its top and side for 1-2 minutes.

Try to find a mattress that passes such a standard wherever you are.

It will cost you a few dollars more, but is worth the added protection.

Right now only Serta has passed such a standard with Sealy and Simmons planning to introduce their own mattresses that pass the flammability test in the next few months.

I consult in this industry, and think Serta makes the best mattresses for the money.
