well, our Oil Tank shit the bed today
there is $1,000 down the drain :eyes:

luckily Mrs Matcom smelled oil this morning and found the leak before too much escaped or anything go ruined.

she told me as soon as I returned from Lowe's with the new kitchen countertops.

timing is everything i guess :eyes:

I hate household repairs. Well hopefully things will turn up for you pretty soon. Buy a lottery ticket, what the hell.

4. Bummer Matcom!
That's not going to be cheap either. The fees for getting rid of an old oil tank are high because they are considered hazardous waste.

Could be why they often find them buried under things huh?

Good luck!

In the meantime, what are you doing for heat? It's gonna get burrrr cold up here tonight.

15. That's cool
I'll have to remember that little trick if it ever happens to me. I have two tanks in my basement and I am not sure I have a door big enough anymore to get them out if it did.

Glad you are going to stay warm.

Now, go up those counters together! LOL

21. Glad you were able to come up with 8 drums in an emergency...
I've been searching, fruitlessly, for just one.

26. Hold it. HOLD IT!
You just "happen" to have eight 50 gallon drums back there in a corner of the cellah?
What ELSE you got down there?

5. not familiar with fuel oil, but
can't you repair the tank? I have used gas tank repair epoxy on a couple of vehicles - it seems to hold pretty good and you don't even have to empty the tanks when you apply it.....

17. this doesn't really apply
since you said elsewhere that the thing was 30 and end of its lifespan, but....just because somethign is against the law.....well I mean....you know.....obvioulsy the crew that just filled your tank didn't see it....

I mean a $5 pack of epoxy vs $1000 tank...however since its that old and likely you will be needing many $5 packs of epoxy I can see your point.

14. A good idea!
Just get down that basement with your welding torch and patch her up.
I'll be sticking my head out the window and see if I can tell what direction the 'BOOM!' comes from.

12. Gives the BFEE snoopers reason to question you
Uh sir, we smelled oil, mind if we come in? No, well we can come in sir, why do you have diesel oil in 55gal. drums? No difference sir, heating oil, diesel, both #2, just the additives are different. Now, have you bought any fertilizer lately?

20. I have a 1000 gallon underground oil tank that started allowing
water seepage into the tank. I bought an above ground tank and had the oil man pump my fuel from underground into the above tank. Water and oil do seperate, so it wasn't that big of deal. Last winter my oil furnace went out and my heater man talked me into a gas furnace. I hate gas heat, for some reason it is not as warm as oil heat. I saved maybe a thousand dollars going with a new gas furnace, but if I had to do it over I would have spent the thousand dollars and got another oil furnace..

I haven't heard "shits the bed" since I left Nashua.
Leaking at a jernt or a hole in the tank?
