OK do I just not know fashion or what???
These are photos from fashion shows this week. Does anyone actually end up wearing this shit? No offense to any designers here, but it all reminds me of concept cars at auto shows which will never hit the street. Do you gals like any of this?

26. on some level, to some degree
the further you get from nyc, paris, and milan, the further you get from couture / the runway.

3. I like the black and orange number ...
... but the rest of it looks like when HippieKid was little and would mis-dress her barbie dolls.

All these ladies need some Twinkies, by the way.

I kind of like it. I mean the bodice with the buckles, pictured.

8. Not the first two
even though there seems to be a love of construction (or puzzles!) in that weird maternity mini. I wouldn't wear any of them but I can see how some would fall for 'em.

9. Think of it as art, like sculpture or painting, but with clothes.
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 10:20 PM by tjdee
That's what it is.

Couture isn't Pret-a-porter (ready to wear), although some of the colors, lengths, etc. are used in what ends up being worn.

So it's like...you may not see a fugly dress like the first one on the subway, but you will probably see colors like that. And so on.

13. Ahhhhh
Well that makes sense. I do actually enjoy seeing it as art but always wondered why real people never wore it...so you're saying it's more an influence on trends and the color palette.

24. Yes...and some pieces can work with less showy clothes...
like the stockings in the first picture could be worn with "real" clothes. Or a couture shirt could be worn with jeans.

But mostly, it's an influence although I'm sure some wacky celeb has her eye on that maternity-ish frock!

10. I'm a little ol' stay at home mom in Tennessee
Although I've lived places slightly more cosmopolitan. But they can't possibly be walking around like that in public anywhere, can they?

23. They aren't 'clothes'
They're 'costumes'

And if they don't stop trying to make women look like Ronald MacDonald on a bad day, couturiers will disappear.
