Hash is almost obsolete now because there's no reason for it anymore. I remember smoking it back in the 90's, and it was good stuff but even then the pot was starting to get more potent than it. Now, the pot out there is just kick your ass. I actually am not very pleased about that. It's almost too potent. I miss being able to smoke out and go be productive. I can't do that anymore with the stuff that's out there.

Hash is actually hard to come by because no one bothers making it anymore. And I live in Humboldt County, one of the largest marijuana growing regions in the country. And if I can't find it here, I imagine it's really hard to get elsewhere.

Listen to me...I sound like "joe druggie". Believe me, I'm not. It is just that during high school and college I liked to "experiment with recreational drug use."

Anyhow, when I was in high school we used to go up to Canada for rock concerts. We always had some pot with us and, for some reason, the kids in Canada were usually willing to trade us killer hash for not so killer pot. Don't ask me why. The hash we would smoke was so smooth...quite different from pot. It also didn't put me in la-la land like the pot today.

It does me. I first started smoking in the 90's and even then it was pretty powerful. But it's gotten even more so. Don't get me wrong, I like the really heavy stuff, but only once in awhile. I kind of miss the low grade Mexican I used to get in high school. It gave you a nice mellow high and didn't completely knock you on your ass.

All the more reason for legalization. At least then we could have choices as to how high we wanted to get. Sometimes I just want a beer, you know? I don't always want to drink Wild Turkey. But that's kind of what we're stuck with when it comes to pot these days.

I used to love to smoke a little pot to "take the edge off" and relax. The stuff out there today doesn't just take the edge off, it puts me to sleep.

I took two bites of a pot brownie a while back and I thought I was going to die. I was so high it wasn't even fun -- I thought my heart was going to beat through my chest. It took me about five hours to even start to feel normal.

I smoke pot maybe twice a year now -- maybe that had something to do with it.

I do miss the "low grade" Mexican, though.

They are in a class all by themselves. As for you only smoking twice a year having something to do with why it knocks you out, yeah that might be a factor. But it's not the only one. Pot today is just incredibly potent. I read somewhere that the average THC content has skyrocketed even within the last five years. It's too bad. I've actually met a few medical growers around here, people that can grow legally. And they are actually saying the same thing. The potency is getting to the point where it's too high. Generation after generation of mixing the most potent plants has made it that way. Hopefully they will start to recognize this more and take steps to reduce it.

Make no mistake, this is a direct result of prohibition. The growers around here used to be mostly hippies, but now they are mostly gone thanks to Uncle Sam's efforts and organized crime has taken over most of it. They don't care how potent they make it. Our best hope lies in the medical growers, people that actually have a vested interest in how their product affects people.

I had a girlfriend that lived in New Orleans a few years ago, and the pot there was pretty weak. When she came out and visited me and tried some Humboldt stuff, she was unable to speak coherently for the next few hours. Heh, I forget sometimes that Humboldt is a little unique in terms of what kind of pot we have.

Anyway, I haven't done that much in the last year or two, but my experience since the turn of the century has been that there is definitely a wide variety of potencies still out there. Although I must confess that if the only thing available were comparable to the stronger strains I've tried, I would be frustrated at not being able to get something a little more mellow as well. I've been flat out incapacitated.

Not to say that today's weed isn't slightly stronger than the weed of the 70s, but the idea that pot today is radically more powerful than pot a generation or two ago is one of those unproven myths that is often tossed off as common sense. It is also a favorite talking point of right-wing anti-drug people, regardless of the lack of much supporting evidence.

I'm not trying to discount your personal experience with then and now, but whenever I see that comment made I feel compelled to respond, since it is often disinformation :)

and was trying to word my post so that you wouldn't think I was implying it. Sorry if I missed that mark, though :hi: It's just one of those things I feel compelled to say, even if, as with the posts in this thread, I'm sure it's not being made as an anti-drug statement. But it is something you hear a lot from prohibitionists, and it's an argument that seems to be generally accepted by the public at large, so I feel compelled to at least provide a counterargument.

I don't doubt it's different now, but I think it's probably due to a number of reasons. I haven't imbibed for a long time (over a year), but the last time I did it really kicked my ass. Probably for a number of reasons, such as that it is likely at least somewhat stronger, but also because I'm older than I used to be and so my metabolism has changed, not to mention the fact that THC is fat soluble, and I've got a little more of that sticking around than I used to. :)

There have been times when I've stopped for weeks and months at a time. Toking a joint after not doing so for that long will give you a stronger high than if you wake & bake every day.

Irony: the less often you smoke pot, the stronger your resulting high when you do. It's also my understanding that there's a percentage of the population for whom marijuana has no noticable effect; they can smoke and smoke and smoke and only end up with a mother of a headache. I actually know (well, knew, now) someone who doesn't smoke it at all for that exact reason.

However, having had my first toke when I was sixteen, and comparing it to today, well, I could get just as high now as I did the very first time if I'm willing to not do it at all for a month or so. It's all just in how long you don't smoke.

Sure if you have the money and are lucky enough to live where there's a supply nearby, you can find the kind bud. However, if you're not, and you can't afford the good stuff, dirtweed is FAR more common and SO not potent.

First time same thing happened to me. I also remember recalling Clinton's expression of "I did not inhale".

I coughed it all and kept asking my buddies if I was feeling the effects.

They kept saying, "you'll know when you are"...

I tried it 3 or 4 times and don't know if I ever REALLY felt the effects, though on 2 occassions I think I did. During one of them, I remember an amazing lightheaded feeling, and the beer never tasted so good. Another time I recall laughing uncontrollably for ten minutes.
