I think it's one of the best films of this year. Truly sad, and you can feel envision the pain and fears as the movie progresses. What do you guys think?

1. Are you only thinking plot-wise?
Best Picture is for writing, photography, costumes, direction, sound, etc. It's for the totality of the film, not just the story/acting.

2. of course
writing wise, hotel rwanda is already nominated for it. I thought the photography was great and that it captured the essence of the moment. Costume, what can you argue about costume, I thought it was pretty accurate of it's protrayal. The plot was good because the directing of it's actors was excellent. Now I thought the music integreated well with what was on the screen. But I guess it's personal opinion.

4. I've not seen it, so I can't comment...

One of the things about bio-pics/real life stories is that there is an air of predictability (for lack of a better word) and sometimes they can get slightly preachy or reverent with regards to its subject. I'm not sure if that's the case with this film..

I'm certain Don Cheadle did a tremendous job, and it wouldn't be the first time a worthy film got the shaft from the Academy.

I'm weird, I almost don't think bio-pics should be nominated for Best Picture...but I'll allow it, LOL. :)

3. I agree with ProudToBeLiberal
Hotel Rwanda, in my opinion, was the total package. I think it is far more deserving of a Best Picture nom than Ray is.

HR had to total package. The writing is great, the way the film was shot was fantastic (the build up in intensity had me squirming in my seat)and I think the direction was subtlety brilliant. It earned a nomination far more than Ray did. And don't get me wrong, I liked Ray, but it is not in the same league that the others in the category are.

And the Best Actor race is just so damn hard this year...all completely deserving. Can there be a 5 way tie?? :)
