Can you stand another Spongebob thread?
I was visiting kinfolk over the weekend. Upon seeing my Spongebob sweatpants, my fundy S-I-L (who is actually a very nice person) asked if I had heard that Spongebob was supposedly gay. I laughed and said "Yeah, how ridiculous can people get?" She said: "Well, I've never seen the show, but I thought the premise was that he IS gay." I said: "Uh, he's a sponge. There's no sex involved." She said "oh", but I could tell that she didn't quite believe me!

:wtf: :eyes:

1. My sister and her husband are the same way
In fact, they buy Dobson's BOOKS! I wrote her and told her rather bluntly that it was hard to believe she was sending money to such a fucking idiot. No reply. I should have sent her the pic in my sigline.

Someone had a great thread a few days ago about faking them out and pretending that certain cartoon characters really are gay. Give them enough rope, etc.

2. These nutjobs see sex in everything.
If it's not overtly hetero, it must be gay! Because it HAS to be about sex, right?

I'm one of those parents who don't let their kids watch TV, but I make an exception for SpongeBob videos. It's a great, clever, funny, ultimately kind and loving show -- way more wholesome than Disney, IMHO -- that Little Mermaid (giving up her voice to get a man??) is just plain sick.

5. I thought the LM gave up her voice to save her dad, but that doesn't

change your excellent point. Disney cartoons routinely make me cry, because there's always someone in terrible danger. God damnit, being in danger is TERRIFYING! Even though the cartoons resolve well, the terror is there for a while -- and do these parents really think that the kids don't feel it?

3. I bought
a box of Sponge Bob Tissues, Puffs I believe. I thought they were kinda funny so I bought them. You would think here in Kansas I could find someone to piss off with them but so far, no.

4. Yes. There is sex in cartoons.
We routinely see condoms, pregnancy test kits, KY jelly & other lubes, and toys, casually but prominently placed in the bathrooms and bedrooms of cartoon characters.

When Spongebob & Patrick hold hands, the message is, "this sponge and this starfish really are thinking about disgusting sex together all the time. In fact, that is all they ever think about, and their holding hands is (1) their way of remembering what they're going to do later and (2) their way of forcing you to accept as normal what they're going to do later."

These mindless, brainless, non-thinking ignorant idiots need to get their heads out of the muck and accept things at face value. God forbid two-dimensional, silly, ridiculous characters should hold hands. Better they kill each other on every episode.
