Anyone else ever have strange cryptic images of their death?
Like you know maybe you're sitting around and your mind starts to wander and next thing you know you imagine yourself being crushed in a car accident or something?

Mine is always bullets, I always have this strange scenario that pops into my head involving me being shot.

Strange eh? Anyone else ever get that?

3. Remembering death is a spiritual practice
but only if one uses the universal fact of death as a reason to be more aware of one's present and to savor it.

I've known of people who have had feelings such as yours, and what they do is the practice I describe above.

15. the goal of a Sufi is to die before death
don't mean to freak anyone out...

but the point of what I was saying was to savor every moment of your life. Be aware and be grateful for every breath.

19. OK, that I get.
Its the little things in life that make me glad to be alive. Someone laughing at my humor, dancing the boogaloo with my (then) 6 yr old niece at my brother's wedding, good beef stew on a cold day, coffee in the morning, winter(the sleeping time), the smell of newly cut grass by a lake, etc.

10. I had a horrifying dream a couple months ago
That I was at a clinic, waiting to be euthanized.
Seems I had no choice in the matter, because I had an organ that someone needed.

12. Had a dream where I saw my body on stainless steel morgue table
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 07:27 PM by havocmom
and I was in a room with a doctor and my daughter but nobody saw me. I was strangely happy and impish, trying to get through to my daughter not to be sad, that I was OK, no pain anymore and right there with her.

Very odd dream, but not really unpleasant. Didn't like how my body looked dead though. Bad color for me.

17. yup
Often when I'm walking on a sidewalk I think about how easy it would be for me to trip and split my skull open on the curb. I always get the same image of the cement rushing up to meet my head, and me not doing anything to try to protect myself.

18. All the time, involving a car accident
Three years ago I was standing on a street corner when there was a collision which sent a bright green chevy S-10 spinning towards me. The back end of it hit me on the hip, knocking me out and backwards. It's simply inexplicable that I wasn't more seriously hurt. Very messed up.

Ever since then, I sometimes see car collisions when driving or walking through intersections. The accidents don't happen (there might not even be a car around), but I can see quite clearly out of the corner of my eye as myself and my car are crushed. Kind of unnerving at first, but thankfully it doesn't happen as much as frequently now.

20. yes I have the shooting thing don't worry about it
I realize you are a Canadian -- HEyHEY you are a Canadian, right? or am I thinking of someone else? -- but let's just say that in the larger sense, the North American continent is a large one and today the American experience is very much about being shot. Do you remember the artist who had himself shot as a "happening?" He said, There is no experience more American than that of being shot."

There's a touch of Freud to it, I'm sure. In olden times, it would be equivalent to having visions of St. Sebastian being shot with arrows. But today we are filled with media images and perhaps personal experience of being shot at with guns. My house was shot up in a driveby years ago (with me in it!) and while I have reason to believe that the shooters aimed to miss me, I still remember the unreality of the experience because at the time all I knew is that unwanted projectiles were penetrating my living space...

I don't think it strange to have visions of being shot. I think it perfectly normal. The mind tries to plan for the future by processing all possibilities. Then, when something outlandish does happen, we don't get freaked -- we are thinking, this is so unreal and so like a movie and we stay calm and get done what needs to get done to survive.

23. Used to all the time
but it was always the preparation - scenes where we were trying to preserve order and dignity when we all knew that the bomb had been dropped and we were just waiting for the radiation get us.

Went through the drills in grade school - under the desk and all that.
