1. Gays for Bush
Well, I have ABSOLUTLEY NO SYMPATHY for any gay person and anything bad that happens to them for the next four years if they voted for George W. Bush. They get what they deserve.

2. I think most of them voted for Kerry this time
They believe in small govt, etc... but at least some of them, like Andrew Sullivan, couldn't tolerate Bush's homophobia. Did the Log Cabin Republicans endorse Kerry?

Log Cabin witholds endorsement of President

http://www.logcabin.org/logcabin/press_090804.html

"Washington, DC)—Log Cabin Republicans are withholding their endorsement from President Bush for 2004. "Log Cabin's National Board has voted to withhold a Presidential endorsement and shift our financial and political resources to defeating the radical right and supporting inclusive Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives," said Log Cabin Board Chairman William Brownson of Ohio. The Log Cabin Board of Directors voted 22 to 2 not to endorse the President's re-election.

"Certain moments in history require that a belief in fairness and equality not be sacrificed in the name of partisan politics; this is one of those moments. The national board's vote empowers Log Cabin to maintain its integrity while furthering our goal of building a more inclusive Republican Party. Log Cabin is more committed than ever to its core mission to build a stronger and more inclusive Republican Party. There is a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party, and that fight is bigger than one platform, one convention, or even one President," said Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director Patrick Guerriero."

11. Let's Not Be Bigoted Here
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 08:22 PM by forester2005
Just because someone is gay doesn't mean they are "asshats" for voting for Bush. Let's not be so blind as to think that all gays or minorities will vote democratic and anyone who doesn't is a self-hating person. Let's be a little more tolerant here.

Calling someone an "asshat" just because they are are homosexual and happened to vote for Bush is offensive. I understand that asshat is generally used as a derogatory term for anyone foolish enough to vote for Bush but to single this person out because he is a homosexual who voted for Bush is offensive to me.

In fact this whole post is offensive. Would we be posting about an African-American who happens to support Bush and call them a "self-hating asshat" or an oreo or sellout? I hope not!

12. OK then, let's just apply some logic
Why is it in the self-interest of an out gay person to vote into political power a person (*) who is not beholden to them but rather to a socially conservative base that wants him to legislate homophobia? He will take your vote, but don't expect anything good for the gay community in return.

15. Discussion Is Good
This is a well reasoned question, and one that should be asked on this site. But to simply call someone an "asshat" is silly and does nothing to further discourse. To assume that everyone who is identified with a specific ethnic, racial or other group will think and act in a certain way is bigoted.

"Bigoted: Obstinately and blindly attached to some creed, opinion practice, or ritual; unreasonably devoted to a system or party, and illiberal toward the opinions of others."

21. Actually, yes, it does mean they are self hating asshats
Homosexuals are a special target of Bush and his masters.

Hence any homosexual who supports his own enemy is a self hating asshat.

I don't blame people for saying that. These gays are either extremely stupid or extreme sell outs.

25. I bet they aren't gay.
It's unfortunate that these negative stereotypes of Republicans persist in gay circles---just as negative stereotypes of American conservatives persist in elite European circles. And just as the reality of Americans differs from European stereotypes, the reality of our party's treatment of individual gays differ from the stereotypes of many gay activists, including some who call themselves Republicans. It's too bad that the nation's largest gay and lesbian Republican organization with a full-time Washington office has not been promoting the inclusive reality of the GOP to the gay community.

Who the hell would call the Republicans inclusive?

14. Reminds me of the Jews who worked with the
Nazis in the ghettoes and the camps, the Judenratt. What they failed to realize until it was too late was that regardless of what how much Nazi butt they kissed, in the end they were JEWS. The same goes for gays, Jews and blacks or any minority who supports the pugs. In the end if you are not white, heterosexual, mail and above all else CHRISTIAN then you simply do not matter to the pugs.

Go ahead support the pugs...when they come for you will there be anyone LEFT to defend you? Where will your right-wing friends be then?

He thinks it applies to private forums.

Of course a gay-for-Bush person not understanding civil liberties is hardly a surprise.
